  1. thank you, I will research that medication. Marla, yes, she was boarded about a month ago, at the same place she always goes to. She has been fairly normal since, and we were seeing some changes prior to this. We have had a couple workers here off and on, but she wags her tail and visits them all, and her bed and things have not been affected at all. It is almost daily that we see a new fear, or behavior. Our vet says that dementia can come on slowly or quickly. I hate to think that is what it is, but there are no other explanations. So hard to watch her confusion. After trying 3 times to get her to come in last night, I finally called my husband to ask him to get her when he got home. Around 5 AM, he came in with her and said she ran right in like she normally does. It was just getting light, so I wonder if that is part of Sundowner disease ? I don't know, I am just so sad to see her this way.
  2. Ruby has always been a bit quirky when it came to loud noises, such as thunder, fireworks, etc..... the last few weeks, she has decided she is afraid of the ice maker in the fridge (not new), the BBQ when it contracts and expands outside, and today the cord for the sliding door. We decided to take her to the vet to get her looked at, and he found nothing wrong. She had blood work about 2 months ago to check her levels and her thyroid. He said everything looks great, and she probably is getting dementia, which was mentioned to us by our old vet about 8 months ago. He also said there isn't anything to do for it. Tonight and last night, she has went out for her last turn out, and stood and stared at me instead of going. I told her about 10 times before she finally shook her head and headed out. Both nights she also has refused to come back in. Last night I went out and tried to get her to come in with her collar and she planted all 4 feet into the ground and wouldn't budge. My husband came home shortly after that and carried her in. Tonight, same thing, only she won't let me catch her. I tried cookies and er jerky treats, nothing. I left her a few minutes and then went back. She just runs from me. My husband will be home in a couple hours and will corral her and bring her in. I left the light on and she has a cozy bed she loves on the deck, but she is lounging on the grass right now. This is scaring me. Any ideas on what to do ? I thought about taking her out on a leash, but she will not, and never has, peed or pooed on a leash. Ideas ? Suggestions ? Medications ? She will be 9 next month.
  3. I am so sorry and praying that the two of you have sweet dreams tonight. Hugs to you both.
  4. I am so sorry to hear this..........hugs to you and Lady.
  5. OH so excited to hear if this works for your friend. Ruby is afraid of everything, and her anxiety has always been out of control on those loud nighst. I dread summer because of the 4th of July. Last night she heard the BBQ contract and expand, so spent the evening pacing up and down the hallway and spending time in her crate shaking. We have tried every med the vet could think of on her, with zero results. I don't know if this med is an option for her due to her heart murmur, but I am anxiously awaiting the results.
  6. Just reading this late tonight...........will be praying for you and Zuri. I am so sorry you are going through this.
  7. OH Wow...........just seeing this tonight. I am so sorry, and will be praying that they are wrong.
  8. what about hiring a neighbor kid who could walk her after school ? They usually work pretty cheap. Or maybe a pet door ? My 9 year old goes out around 9 AM and then does not go back out until 6-7 PM for dinner. She has never had UTI's though.
  9. I am so sorry. Sounds like you have a lot of beautiful and funny memories of her.
  10. Welcome from the north end of Oregon. He is a gorgeous pup.
  11. I am so sorry, and it is tough not having any answers as to why he left. Take care of yourself.
  12. I have not had to put a dog to sleep, but I just want to say how very sorry I am that all of you had to go through this. Heartbreaking.
  13. Wishing you some comfort in happy memories.
  14. Pointing does help when she is just standing there in the dark, looking at me like I am crazy for sending her out there. She goes when I point and get the mean scowly face.
  15. Ruby's is GO POTTY.......GO.....GO (and the last time I point).
  16. Ruby has an area about 20' X 6' for her to wander up and down, not fenced, before she will poop. We trained her to go in the bark when we first got her by taking her out on a leash and walking up and down that area, and then the treat. She will only pee on the lawn however, but we didn't mind that. She is really difficult to take anywhere though because she will not poop. I have no idea how long before she goes when we leave her at the kennel. We can walk her all day around town or a park, no poop. She loves the bark o mulch here I guess.
  17. Is it possible to give him a pain med an hour or so before he needs to get up ? Might help him be a bit nicer when it is time.
  18. Well shoot. I bought a bunch of this when Ruby had her teeth cleaned, but I never used it. I better check it out though. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Sounds like things are slowly getting better. That was one nasty looking break. Is he eating well ? Does he stand to do that ? I have not had to deal with anything like this, just curious how it all works. Sending healing prayers for Jake.
