  1. This is the one she tried last night and loved. I only have 3 more of this kind, so may need to go back and buy more. She did have a bit of a tummy issue this afternoon, but I doubt if it was the canned food from yesterday. She was eating grass and then hacked up a few blades of grass. She ate her regular kibble tonight that was soaked a bit and topped with parmesan. Her dental is in the morning, so we shall see how things go. Thanks everyone for your input !!!
  2. I went and bought a couple of brands yesterday, all with similar ingredients. I ended up with Merrick and Evanger's. I tried one and she loved it. This morning I fed soaked kibble with a dash of coconut aminos. She is spoiled............
  3. Has anyone tried the Merrick brand ? Amazon sells it fairly inexpensively and it seems like good ingredients. I am going to the pet store today to get a couple kinds. Thank you for sharing
  4. It is time to switch Ruby onto a canned food for at least some of her meals. She continues to lose weight and just knows all the tricks I have to make her food more palatable. She is getting a dental Wednesday so I thought now would be a good time to try something else. She is allergic to beef and that is the only one Costco has had the last few times I have been there. I would love one where I feed the whole can (she weighs 57 lbs) and that does not contain grains if possible. The thought of an open can in my fridge makes me shudder. I also do not want to touch it. I am the exact same way with raw meat too, not just dog food. She has been on the salmon Costco food, but doesn't like it too much. She prefers turkey and chicken it seems like. Ideas ?
  5. OH POOR GUY !!!! I am going to go get some canned food for her tomorrow. It may be time to switch her food out anyway. She won't eat it unless there is cheese or rice and chicken on top. The vet said I should try to get more nutrition in her, but she is difficult. I have been trying to avoid canned food as long as I could because the smell makes me gag. Will just hold my breath.
  6. I will ask about the Amiar tomorrow. Yes, blood work has been done and she is doing well as far as her kidneys. I wondered about the breath too. It was getting bad for a while, but got much worse after she went away for 2 weeks. About a week after she came home, her breath became intolerable. It looks like she has one tooth, maybe more, that are infected. I love the place she goes to be boarded, however she almost always comes home with an owie of some sort. The lady that keeps her has tons of acres for her to run on, and other dogs to play with, so Ruby runs around like a fool and gets hurt. Nothing serious usually and she is so happy there that we are OK with it. She also has a healing puncture wound on her butt and ripped of one of her dew claw nails while there. The lady used to raise greys and loves the dogs like crazy. We know she is loved and safe (other than a bump or scrape) while we are away. I did call and ask her about any bones, and she does not give them. Ruby's teeth were bad before and we knew a dental was going to be done soon.
  7. Ruby will be having her first dental next Wednesday and I am already worried about my girl. Her breath changed to paint peeling in the last couple of weeks, so she went to the vet yesterday who said she looks to have pretty bad tarter and possibly a couple of infected teeth. I knew it was getting to be time. So I am wondering what you feed them after their dentals and for how long ? She really isn't a good kibble eater anyway, so is it best to switch to rice and chicken ? Canned food ? How soon can I start brushing her teeth again ? I had stopped about a year and a half ago when I had foot pain and could not get up and down easily. Incredible how quickly her teeth went downhill. Hoping to keep up on them now. Do they tend to bleed a lot or drool ? What did you use for pain ? The vet and I talked quite a bit about the concerns of anesthesia and greyhounds, so I feel he is up to date on caring for her. Thanks for any help and advice you share.
  8. As I sit here looking at my beautiful Ruby, I just cannot understand people. Glad she is safe and being loved.
  9. Thank you everyone. I just got done checking it out tonight and it looks healthy and pink. I am sad to learn the darn thing is probably going to grow back. So hard to trim those wobbly nubs.
  10. Ruby was away at sleep away camp while we went on vacation. At camp she has acres and acres to run. When we brought her home, she smelled so bad we had to give her a bath before letting her lay on anything. She stunk. Anyway, I noticed during her shower that she had a new owie on her left hip. I washed it good and it looked fine, no worries. 4 nights later I hear her licking and licking and driving me nuts while trying to get some sleep, and I notice her entire dew claw is gone. No nail on it at all. It looks healthy and pink, not bloody, but must be bugging her to keep licking it. I told her to stop a couple times and she has since left it alone. So will the nail grow back ? I HATE trimming those floppy things so I am hoping the answer is no. Anything I need to watch for ?
  11. She is getting 2 cups of kibble daily along with the rice. I would think that would be enough kibble to give her what she needs, and it is about a cup more than she was getting. She looks good, coat is fine and her tummy isn't upset. I think I will just "Go With It". Thanks........
  12. I am so sorry to hear that your Misty is gone. Godspeed sweet girl
  13. Other than firming up their poop, do the carrots provide anything else to the pups nutrition wise ?
  14. Ruby is so picky that half the time she was not eating more than a third of a cup of kibble a day. Many of you know that she just wouldn't eat no matter what I added to her food. About 2 weeks ago I had some chicken that I didn't have any ideas for and I boiled it up with some rice and extra water, and used it on Ruby's food at every meal. Since then I have used low sodium chicken broth to make the rice, so no added meat. She looks like she has gained some weight and looks healthier. Poo is normal and zero tooting, which is wonderful !! I also stopped giving her Prilosec and she has had zero vomiting. Is there any reason why I should not continue giving her white rice every day ? I have been giving her 1 cup of kibble, 1/2 cup or so of rice, and warm water. She hasn't turned up her nose once. She is eating 2 cups of kibble a day instead of 3, which is what the bag says. Does this seem like a reasonable thing to continue or does she need the protein and other things in the 1 cup of kibble she is missing ? Edited to add that her HORRIBLE fish breath is gone completely even though her kibble is salmon.
  15. Congratulations on your new sweet boy. I LOVE LOVE the lion hat. That is too funny.
  16. Woohoo........have you delivered yet ? Do we get pictures ? Congratulations on the new baby and King, who seems to be thriving in your care.
  17. I have started adding over boiled white rice to 1/2 the amount of kibble twice a day. She is eating both meals, which she has not done for quite a while. I use low sodium chicken broth and lots of water when I boil the rice, then add a scoop of rice and kibble, some warm water, and she wolfs it down. No vomiting since I started doing this. She also looks like she might have gained a bit.
  18. I give one to Ruby about once a week. She loves it.
  19. I am so sorry. I have been reading way too many of these this week.
  20. What beautiful coloring on her. I am so sorry that it was her time to go. Rest easy sweet Breeze.
  21. So sorry this has happened again...................
