  1. Can greyhounds have pigs ears? I got some today and I am afraid to give them to them. I want to be sure I am not going to make them sick. Oh, and while I am asking stupid questions, can they have ham? My mom always said that ham was like poison to dogs. Is she right? Thanks for your help!
  2. FWIW,we wouldn't go to the dog park. We do occasionally take them to the baseball field where it is only OUR dogs who are running. Even though it is only ours, we have had to go to the vet! One of our dogs got a skin tear and had to be stitched up. We almost lost him because of it, too. They did not get to run for 10 months after that. We were just to afraid! Please understand that the people who are posting are not trying to be mean. They really do have your best interest at heart.
  3. Ziggy, who is 9 going on 40, catches them and holds them in his mouth. He doesn't eat them or hurt them one bit. I yell at him to "drop it" and he does. Of course, it's not only mice, he picks up baby birds too. He's done this about 6 times.
  4. This is what I lost my Dawn to just this past March. She did not want to go and fought it to the very end. She could hardly walk. She smelled awful and would not, ABSOLUTELY NOT eat. I could get her to drink milk. She would drink her Ensure, but there was no eating going on. She was in so much pain. I know because of all of the panting. Even though it was cold, she was panting. She also was in liver failure my vet thought. She was pooping blood and her pee was clear. It was just like water. I felt absolutely awful putting her to sleep. She did not want to go but she was in extreme pain. She could hardly walk, couldn't eat, and had trouble getting comfotable to lay down to sleep. She didn't sleep much. She just paced. I still feel guilty about it. Good Luck. I hope he can tell you when he is ready. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  5. I am sorry that you are going through this. The only thing I could get Dawn to eat at the end was her vanilla Ensure. Then she would occasionally eat cheese. She loved it. I am keeping you in my thoughts as you go through this time.
  6. Ziggy has allergies and he licks his feet raw. I put Neosporin on his feet and put a pair of my DS's socks on him and tape them above his ankle bone making sure that it is not too tight. He is also on some allergy meds but I can't remember what it's called. This is the only time of year that he has this reaction, but he has it every year.
  7. We use the chews here too! The boys love them.
  8. I am so sorry! I hope that your last days with her give you many warm memories. It is never enough time. I will keep you in my prayers.
  9. That was beautiful! As I sit here reading this, the tears are just flowing. I too lost a sweet grey this year and you did a great tribute to Macho. There is no doubt that he was loved. You are in my prayers!
  10. We have treated Ziggy's eye since about 6 months after we adopted him. He was treated for many eye problems but they finally said it was glaucoma. We tried treating that with drops. We tried several different kinds of drops but none of them worked for long. Our vet sent us to OSU and he saw a specialist there. They gave us some drops to get us through to make the decision to have his eye taken out. Our choices were to do it at OSU which was very expensive or at our local vet which was about half the cost, or we could do nothing. He had his eye taken out in May of this year. It was very scary for him at first. I found that if my hand touched the side of his face before I put on his collar for his walkies that he was not so scared. The good part is that he is not as grouchy as he was before. They told us that it was like he had a migraine every day. HE IS A MUCH HAPPIER PUP NOW! I am glad we did it. Good luck! I hope that they can find some drops that will help your pup. If not though, losing the eye is okay. You can pm me if you need to. It was a hard decision to make.
  11. I use the the red bag, lamb and rice formula. I buy the mini-chunks because my hounds wouldn't eat the larger sized kibble. I had to give it away. They get one cup in the morning and 2 cups at night.(They get chicken and cottage cheese in their supper bowl with the kibble.) They are both about 80 pounds but our bridge angel was only 60 pounds and she would out eat the boys and still be hungry. She did not gain weight either and she was not food aggressive.
  12. I am so sorry! It does get better but I still have days where I just have to cry. I lost my precious girl in March. Yesterday taking a walk, I walked past a tatoo parlor and thought that if I were to get a tatoo, it would be of her. And, . . .I just lost it. I cried and cried. It is better because I don't feel that way every day, but I do still have them now and again. You did do the right thing for your boy! You are in my prayers!
  13. Good Luck! I sure hope that he is able to walk soon. My prayers are with you all!
  14. Prayers from Ohio for your old man. He is adorable. Here's to hoping that it is something easy. We won't go to the bad place.
  15. I am sorry that you are going through this. The feelings thing, I mean. It is so hard when they are not themselves anymore.
  16. Please don't think bad of these people. It sounds like they really don't want to give up their pets. I understand their concerns. Our DS became very sensitive and ill when he was 3 years old. He had severe allergies to milk, eggs, and wheat. It was a very hard time for us. Now that he is 13, all of those things are much better. But, those times were awful. They told us we should not have pets either. When I was a child, I had allergies and the doctor told my parents that we needed to get rid of our dog. I bawled in the doctor's office. My parents made a deal with me. The next time I went, we would tell him that the dog was gone even though he wasn't. I was on allergy shots. Every time they tested me I would react to the opposite thing I was getting shots for. One time it would be dogs, the next time cats. I have been that way my whole life. Our cats bothered me the most. So, when the last one passed on, we haven't gotten another. Our GH Dawn bothered me a lot. It was mostly in the spring and fall. At other times, she didn't bother me too bad. I will keep these poor people in my prayers. Their daughter probably feels very guilty.
  17. I am so sorry to read this! It was so soon after his brother. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
  18. I am so sorry for your loss. I loved opening your threads about Ekko. They always made me smile! Godspeed sweet girl!
  19. When my little girl was getting thin, I gave her a half of a bottle of Ensure every day. It worked for her! Also, try giving him some cottage cheese. Dawson will dance for peanut butter!
  20. I want to add my prayers for your Kato! Also, I will pray for you as well.
  21. Is it in a spot where you can cover it? That helps and then you may not need either the cone or a muzzle. Ziggy didn't mess with his stitches much but Dawson wouldn't leave his alone. GOOD LUCK!
