  1. We have always fed our greys IAMS green bag. About 3 months ago, Myrtle got sick. We thought it was the food so I emailed IAMS and they were great about it. They sent me a coupon for a free bag of food. I asked them at the time if they had changed the formula and she said they hadn't. I bought another bag of the green(STUPID, I know!) and she got sick all over again. We switched to the red bag(lamb and rice) and the upset tummy was over! I did not contact them again but it is strange that it didn't effect the boys, just her. There was even a bit of blood in her stools. Now it is like it never happened. I went through a whole box of rice before we thought of trying the red bag. Is anyone else having a problem with the green bag?
  2. Dawn was a wonderful hound. She didn't slow down until her kidneys got really bad. Our old guy now is 12. He loves his walks but they are slower. I let him set the pace except when all he wants to do is have some salad. He plays several times in the house. I need to get a video of it. He plays a diggity-diggity game. It is hilarious. Our 9 year old acts old. He does NOT like to walk when it is hot or humid. Our 4 year old will go as far and as long as you want to go. She doesn't care if it is hot or humid. She loves to go swimming. She scared me half to death when she walked right into our friend's pond! We give Ziggy, our 12 year old, vitamins daily.
  3. I miss Truman pictures! Do you have any to share with us? He is one of my favorites!
  4. My old guy who is now 12 had SA bad when we got him. He tore our house apart but we kept at it like you have. The only thing that helped was a buddy. He needed to have a companion. She kept him from worrying. He worried about everything. He is very sensitive. You cannot raise your voice or he will jump up on his bed, his safe spot. Sometimes he even shakes. We could just be talking but he can't tell the difference. He is a big hugger, snuggler, and playful hound. He is fine now, but when we first got him, I thought I would pull all my hair out. He pulled the back off of our sofa. He chewed on all our furniture. The sour stuff you put on it . . . . he would lick it up. Ha! Ha! It is hard but when they worm into your heart, you will do what you can to help them. GOOD LUCK!
  5. All three of my dogs bark and growl in their sleep. It is not sleep startle as they are sound asleep when it happens. I call their names or tap them to wake them up so they stop! They are just having vivid dreams. Sleep startle is more aggression. They are frightened awake and are angry because of it. All three of my greys sleep with me. No one has hurt me but they ALL do that. The one that would have done it didn't want anyone else to sleep with her. She did this too though. Don't worry about it. She is just dreaming!
  6. Two of my 3 hounds have pannus. Ziggy was diagnosed with pannus soon after we got him 9 years ago. Dawson also has pannus. He has been on drops for 6 years. I also have an ointment to put in his eyes when they seem worse than normal. I guess what I am trying to say is that it is treatable. Do not worry too much about it. However, it is never "cured."
  7. We give Milkbones here. We also use peanut butter bones from TSC and also use Roy's from Wal-Mart. They all love Marrobones. We make sure everything is made in the US.
  8. My grey had kidney disease and she had 1/2 bottle of vanilla Ensure daily. I also keep chicken baby food in my pantry. She would lick it off my finger with whispered sweet words in her softie ears. Boy, I miss that girl! I hope something works. Prayers for you all!
  9. Dawson had this a year ago when he had his vaccines. So, we now give him his vaccines one at a time. He actually developed cellulitis and was very ill. He was on antibiotics for a week and compresses as long as he would let me. Giving them one at a time he did not have any reactions at all! If crying is involved, I would take her to the vet riteawayqwik!
  10. That was the pill they gave me, Drontal! It did the trick with just one treatment but it is expensive.
  11. I also get up early but the dogs go out right away. When they come back in, they get breakfast and I get ready for work. They have to go pee so they go willingly. I have to have breakfast ready though. My old guy who will be 12 in a month waits until he hears the leashes.
  12. My vet sells me a pill that works like a charm! My female grey loves cat poo and hasn't had worms in a long time. I feed mine rice with chicken and about half the amount of kibble. I still only feed it twice a day but it really seems to work.
  13. Yes! Myrtle is having runny poos lately. We have never had trouble with the green bag before. She still eats it because she is always hungry, but I have seen a difference in her and Ziggy. His is a funny color!
  14. I am so sorry! My thoughts and prayers are with you.
  15. My female loves to swim! Our friends have a pond and she loves it. Our younger male saw her and thought it looked fun. I thought I was going to have to go in to get him but he figured it out and swam a bit too. We take many short walks instead of really long ones. Our one male would walk forever. He would gladly take walks for an hour or two. We go camping with our three greys but we have a camper. It is a hybrid so it is sort of like a pop-up camper but it has 2 double beds, a queen-size bed, and a sofa. Everyone has a grey to sleep with. Sometimes I have two. They love it! Except . . . and this is weird, but our female is freaked out the first night and we have to use a nightlight. After that, she is fine. I forgot to say that no one is crated. We just use their muzzles when we leave . They are really good! Most people don't realize that we have dogs until they have seen them.
  16. I do not withhold food when they get the squirts. I make enough rice for a couple of meals and I just cook it the recommended time on the package. I use the chicken broth to cook the rice and I leave some shredded in it as it cooks. I also save out some chicken and cut it up very fine. My hound that gets this is pretty big. He weighs about 80 lbs. so I give him about 2 cups of rice in the evening's meal and only 1 cup in the morning's meal. On day two if he is better, I add a small amount of kibble, like about a half a cup with the rice and chicken. I don't usually have to do this too many days, usually just 2. I don't use the hamburger too much because my hounds don't like it very much and I have found it to cause diarrhea on its own. Good Luck! I did have to take my boy in to the vet when I could see blood in his stools. He was put on a probiotic for a while.
  17. Our oldest hound does this sometimes and he is just playing! He bites himself and wags his tail like crazy and it thumps on the floor. He also growls at himself. This is usually how it all starts. He is a hoot! Does your hound appear to be playing when he does it?
  18. I am sitting here reading your beautiful post with tears rolling down my face. My thoughts and prayers are with you. What a great tribute to such a special friend!
  19. I have a dog that suffered with severe SA when he first came to us, Ziggy. He tore the back off of our sofa. I don't know how he didn't get hurt. He chewed on all of our wood furniture. We bought the sour stuff to put on the wood but he must have liked it because he chewed it even more! It was a nightmare for a while. When we got our new boy, it stopped immediately. Ziggy was not a fan of the new grey but his SA has never returned. They are best of buds now. It really will get better. Feel free to contact me if you need someone to listen.
  20. It has been below zero here and we have been putting booties on all day. What a pain! However, I do it because their feet get so cold they refuse to walk and we stand out in the freezing cold. They will go out and do their business pretty quick with the booties on and there will be no accidents in the house. I bought all 3 pairs of them at PetSmart.
  21. We have an overly enthusiastic greeter. He loves everyone and thinks everyone loves him! The one day he would not go anywhere near a man who wanted to talk with me about greyhounds. I did not linger! He likes and trusts everyone and when he let me know that this man was not a good person, I was on my way. We also had a female who hated men at first. She would duck away from them. I think she may have been beaten at the track. She could be a bit of a bi?*h. She was our alpha dog even though she only weighed 46 lbs. and the boys were 78 lbs. and 82 lbs. I guess I just wanted to say that maybe he was trying to tell you something about that man.
