  1. My boy lost his eye to glaucoma but he is now healthy and HAPPY! My thoughts and prayers are with you!
  2. My first grey did not want anyone near her bed and would growl if she did not want to be petted. She was the sweetest and best companion we could have ever wanted. She got used to us and our home. She is very much missed and if I could get her back from The Bridge, I would in a heartbeat. Just give him some time. Right now he is just unsure what is going to happen next to him. Good Luck in whatever you decide to do!
  3. I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  4. I use Vectra 3D on all 3 of my greyhounds. No one has had any issues with it. Last year we had a rough time with fleas until we switched to the Vectra. Congratulations on your new pup!
  5. Ziggy had this same surgery and he is much happier without the eye. He had some trouble running into some things but it will go away quickly. Good luck! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or pm me.
  6. Thanks! I didn't know that the medication I was supposed to give him could make him woozy. We had a heck of a time getting him out to the van. They told me that was a common reaction.
  7. I take Dawson in to get his teeth cleaned today. I am scared! The last time he had to be put to sleep his fever went up to 107 and we almost lost him. At least now I know the signs of a high temperature. Please keep him in your prayers. I am not going to go anywhere so that I am home whenever he is done. I am hoping that if he is at home, he won't get himself all worried. I pre-medicated him so he would be calm. I have to take him in at 9:00 when they are going to do it instead of taking him in at 7:30 like most people do.
  8. Our baseball field says no dogs but after the season is over, we are free to use it. There are just so many irresponsible people who do not clean up after their pets that they don't let you do it during the season.
  9. Dawson does this every year. He gets a prednisone 2 hours before his shot. Then, he gets 4-25mg Benedryl right after we get home. If he shows signs of pain, I give him 1-325 mg aspirin. All of this was under the advisement of my vet. He swells up like a donut! It didnt happen with the prednisone and Benedryl. It was scary the first time it happened!
  10. Yes! We fought a hard fight against the glaucoma. He was on the first two meds. but I never heard of the third one. We went to the vet for years. Eventually his eye began to swell. He went to The Ohio State University vet clinic and we saw an opthalmologist. We went there twice before they told us that he needed to lose the eye. He had his eye removed. It was very traumatic for him. He could see out of that eye but it must have just been shadows. He had been very grumpy but now is his happy goofy self! He gets a lot of pets for being one eyed! HE LOVES IT! Good Luck! If you need to PM me or contact me, please feel free to do so. We are very cognizant of his good eye because they said it could move there.
  11. I am so sorry! It is the hardest thing to do and I remember feeling like I had let her down. But, in my heart, I knew that she was now out of pain and happy in Heaven. Please don't beat yourself up. You did the best thing for him and he knew how much you loved him.
  12. How Scary! I am so glad he is on the mend! He is one of my favorites. I love to see pictures of his beautiful face. I hope he continues to improve!
  13. I am so sorry to read this. I love to read your chicken stories. Do you know what ate her? Our friends had chickens and in 2 nights a fox ate all but 3 of them. It was awful!
  14. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but our old guy loved the stuff you put on wood. He just chewed more. Good Luck! I hope it works for her.
  15. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for you.
  16. I am a school teacher and always thought about adopting on my summers off but that did not happen, even once. We currently have 3 hounds because the 4th has gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Everyone came in late September. If you adopt between the time you graduate and start your job, just remember to leave him/her alone for a bit each day so that when you do start to work, he/she doesn't feel abandoned. Good Luck!
  17. Well, it is almost 4P.M. I was hoping for news of getting your pup! Keep us informed.
  18. CONGRATULATIONS! I look forward to lots of pictures. It is so exciting!
  19. I usually don't post on this topic, but I want to say just a couple of things. 1. I now have 3 awesome greys but NOT ONE of them will sit on command, and I personally don't care if they will! That was a stupid thing for the trainer to do. This is just not important in the scheme of things. 2. I have had a grumpy grey and I was scared of her occasionally as well. I wouldn't give back my wonderful memories of her for anything. We worked through all of her aggression but the truth of the matter is that she was not my 1st dog ever. BUT we did consider returning her. 3. I have also returned a dog who was not a good fit for my family. Then, I adopted another grey from the same group. I do understand why you are considering returning Ami. Please know that it is not because of you that Ami is the way she is! GOOD LUCK!
  20. Ziggy has sore feet because he has allergies this time of year. The vet told me to put water in a bucket and swish his feet in a mixture of Epsom Salts and water. He told me to use as concentrated as he could stand. Hope this helps!
  21. We tried to adopt a hound named Aphrodite. I wonder if they are related. I just checked and they aren't. I would be worried about the peeing only once a day. I think a vet visit is in order. Our hounds all hated the crate and would have never gone in on their own. However, if your hound loves it then go for it.
  22. We have had our newest greyhound for about 9 months. In all that time, she has slept with me for about 8 months and 2 weeks. She was not interested for a while. I also think I misunderstood her. She would come in and whine at me. I would take her outside to potty. One night she started it early and I invited her on the bed instead of getting up and she was on the bed in an instant. She has slept with me ever since. So, I think he will let you know when he is ready to trust you or you him. Good Luck on a greyt adventure!
  23. My oldest grey has one on his chest. It is soft and squishy. The vet says it is a cyst and nothing to worry about. I can really move it around. I was super worried too when we found Ziggy's and took him to the vet. I am glad you got good news.
