  1. They did not do her dental. Her kidney values were very high. They gave her a shot and sent her home with Clavamox. Now I am really worried. They said her protein was too high. They did not give me a paper with her numbers on it but I remember one number was supposed to be between 7 and 25 but Dawns was 54. I don't want to lose her! I am so worried. They told me that they would still do her teeth, but that it was going to cost me $300 more than they originally said because she needs to be on so many meds. before, during, and after the procedure. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I guess I am suprised because I thought dogs were supposed to have meat and meat products in their diets. HELP!!
  2. I know this is late but I guess I wanted to pretend that it was going to be okay. Dawn will be ten in June and is the orneriest grey we have. We love her and wouldn't want her any other way, either. She goes for a dental tomorrow and we know that she needs one tooth pulled. I am worried because she has never been put to sleep since we have had her. My one experience with that was awful. Ziggy screamed the whole time they worked on him. I sat in the waiting room crying my eyes out. What bothers me is that I have to go to work so I can't stay with her. Please pray for my little girl. She is so special to us. Thanks!
  3. Thank you for your story! It is very scarey for us. I think it is also scarey for Ziggy. I think that is why he is grumping at his greyt friends. He loves them both and would not hurt either one of them.
  4. Ziggy has only lost sight in his left eye. He is a normally very nervous dog. Little things scare him. He has always been that way in the 5 years that we have had him. He runs into things when we are out on our walks. He jumps around like he is frightened sometimes on walks. He did that just about an hour ago to me. He looked at me and jumped and ran around behind all of us. I try to use a calm and quiet voice with him when he panics and he'll settle down. It is so strange. He runs into branches and bushes. Last week he ran into a weed and got scared. He ran around in a circle and then approached the weed slowly to smell it. I am a bit concerned that he doesn't see very well out of the other eye or I wouldn't think he would be so startled. He loves the other two greys we have. He lounges on the sofa or on the day bed with Dawson. He plays with him outside. Dawn is the alpha dog and he thinks she walks on water. I am just a bit stumped. I know that you are the people to ask. Oh, I have to take him back to OSU this summer for a reevaluation. I will ask them about it too. Thank you everyone who gave me some insight!
  5. I am concerned about Ziggy. He was diagnosed with episcleritis about a year ago. His eye is mostly blue. The specialist at OSU told us that he could still see out of it but that he would have to have medication for it the rest of his life. Also, we were concerned that he could not see out of it. They thought that he could. Well, we doctor his eye twice daily. He has been getting grumpy with the other two greys. This is what I worry about. He has been "air snapping" at them when he is startled. I am afraid that he will hurt one of them. He has never connected with his snapping but it is still a worry. We had a boston terrier when I was a child and he went blind. He bit his buddy, a cocker spaniel, all the time if he got in his face. He never bit to hurt him and the spaniel never got nasty back. What can I do to help Ziggy? Does anyone have any ideas? Would a bell on their collars alert him that they are on the move? If he hears them coming, do you think he would be so startled? Any thoughts and/or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! Judy
  6. Well, I hate to admit this but my DH and I rarely sleep in the same bed. I moan and groan in my sleep which wakes him up. So, I have a daybed in the living room. The two boys sleep in my bed with me. Our little girl sleeps beside my bed on her doggie bed on the floor.
  7. Welcome from Van Wet, Ohio. There are no greys around my town. I talk about them to everyone. One of my second graders told me last week that they adopted a greyhound. I can't wait to talk to his mom to find out. He told me that it chases his cat all over the upstairs. Sounds like it could be a grey!
  8. Well, I have had a lot of experience with this. Ziggy was diagnosed with Pannus soon after we got him. The only medication that helped was Tacrolimus. He has also had uveitis. This is very dangerous also. When all the meds. didn't get rid of that, we had to take him to Ohio State Vet Clinic to see an opthamologist. He has episcleritis. He will have it forever. I put 1 drop in his eye twice a day for the rest of his life. He is worth it! With all that being said, I would definitely ask the vet about it. My small town vet was pretty good at diagnosing it. We only had to go to OSU because we couldn't get a handle on it. Let us know what you find out.
  9. I am so sorry! I cannot imagine how you are feeling. I will keep you in my prayers tonight!
  10. I am so sorry! I will keep you and Flash in my prayers. I hope you have lots longer than 1 - 2 months with your baby.
  11. I am so glad to read that Robin is doing so much better! Add my thoughts and prayers for you and Robin.
  12. I didn't do the poll because 2 of the three hounds only cost me for yearly shots, heartworm and flea control. The other one costs us a lot of money. He has episcleritis which means he needs drops twice a day. He also has allergies which act up in the fall and spring. He needs meds then too. But the truth is, I really don't care how much it is if I can afford it. I do need to find the money for some dentals but my vet is very expensive. I'll save up for it though. They are perfect pets!
  13. We take our dogs to the ballfield to run on days when it is not so hot. It has been a killer summer so we have not let the dogs run in months! We take our 3 and if anyone else is there, we just go home. I am afraid that something bad would happen. Two of mine are very easy going(both boys)but when emotions heat up, they are just as likely to jump. I hope that Sagan is okay and that you are as well!

I am sitting here crying my eyes out. I loved seeing his happy face and playing with his toys. I cannot believe that this sweet looking boy is gone. My DH and DS told me to stop looking at this site if I am going to cry. It just breaks my heart that he had to go. At least he knew what a loving home was . . . even if only for a little while. Run free sweetheart!
  15. Prayers to you and Isis! I hope that she bounces right back.
  16. Sending my prayers for Flash. I hope everything goes well. You eill all be in my prayers!
  17. I am so sorry to read this. Know that we will keep you and Bijou in our prayers.
  18. Just seeing this. Prayers from Ohio for you and your Merlin.
  19. Could this be a bruise? It looks like what Ziggy had when Dawn body slammed him. I hope it's something like this! Judy
  20. I don't know about dogs, but I can't take Doxycyline because it makes me throw up. I feel worse taking the meds than the reason I went there. Every time they prescribe it for me I tell them how bad it makes me feel. I feel better with food, but I feel like vomiting even with food.(Kind of like how I felt when I was pregnant! ) I would think it could be the same with dogs.
  21. My DH thought it could have been a cramp too. I don't know what it was but I am sure glad that she is fine now. She is only 9. She still owes me 6 more good years, I HOPE! I don't mean that monetarily! I just want to keep her around as long as I can. She is our little Alpha dog. I don't know what the boys would do without her. They wouldn't know how far we needed to go on our walkies without her.
  22. Well, this was a scarey event! I still have no idea what happened to her. She was fine about an hour after all of the symptoms started. I guess what I was really afraid of was that she had a stroke. Would that only affect one leg? I put an ice pack on her foot and she settled down. She let me keep it on for about 15 minutes and she had enough. She left me, she always wants me when something is wrong, and laid down on her bed. She walked to her bed in the front of the living room and went to sleep. She is her normal self. I don't know what to think but she surely scared me half to death! Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I have a 15 - 20 page paper due on Friday and I only have 6 pages done!
  23. We came in from our walk and she ate her snacks as always. She laid down on the floor and her back leg started shaking. She licked and licked it. She couldn't stand up with it either. She is now moving around but her panting has not ceased at all! I am so worried. I put an ice pack on her back leg because the only thing I could think of was that she had gotten stung by a bee outside. What can I give her? We live in a small town and there are no e-vets in the area. With it being the 4th of July weekend, I doubt I could get hold of my vet. PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE.
  24. When we first got Dawn, she was just like your girl. We wanted to love on her but she didn't want it. She would give us warning growls just like yours. The year after we got her, we went to our local greyhound reunion. They had a male grey that needed a home. You guessed it, he came home with us! This changed Dawn like you wouldn't believe. He loved to be loved on. He also wanted to be with us. She watched all of that and learned how to be a pet instead of an athlete. Ziggy taught her how to be a better friend to us. She still doesn't "cuddle" but she looks us up for loving if she wants it. We can lay on the floor beside her now and love on her without growls. So ................she may change if you decide to chip! Really, give her some more time. They are all so different and continue to change the longer you have them. Good Luck! Judy
