  1. I had to take Ziggy to OSU for his eye problems. They were very reasonable! The actual visit itself only cost us $120.00. I didn't think that was bad for all of the tests they had to do for him. The vet was so knowledgeable! He did his best to explain Ziggy's problem to us so that we understood. The only downside is the time issue. You will be there for quite a while. After telling you that, I also want you to know that I plan on taking Ziggy in once each year to have his eye checked out. Good luck! Prayers for you and your grey!
  2. They were all loose at night as soon as we got them since our first grey would not crate up at night. She sleeps in our room on her bed. With Ziggy and Dawson, they were both good sleepers at night and neither one was crated at night. I was sleeping in the living room then because of an injury so they could wander from bedroom to living room. No one has done anything bad at night. When we leave, that is another story. Ziggy was very destructive. He pulled the back off of our loveseat! We did crate him when we were gone. One time we came home and the crate had been moved. Dawn had been pulling on the blanket in his crate because she wanted his milkbone that he didn't eat. Then another time, we came home and he met us at the back door. He had anhilated the crate. No crate from then on. He had severe SA for a while. Now we can leave and the worst he does is to grab the hand towel from the bathroom.
  3. I am so sorry you are going through this. That seems inadequate! Please know that you and your family are in my prayers. I will pray for a peaceful passing for your baby. Judy
  4. Thank you Joejoesmom. I feel better knowing that they do have blood on hand for that poor dog. You know, I have watched Animal Planet and seen the animal cops shows. When you see it in real life, it is truly scarey! I have prayed and prayed for that dog!
  5. Ziggy has had problems with his left eye since 2007. We have tried many different medications but only the most expensive drops seem to work. We were told that it was pannus. Dr. Wilkie told us that pannus usually affect both eyes. So, he thinks that he never had pannus that it has been episcleritis the whole time. A couple of months ago, he had uveitis and had to be treated with different drops. I am so glad that we took him there. I feel so much better now that we know for sure what it is that is bothering his eye. On another note, we saw a couple of other greyhounds there! A gentleman had his little female there. Her name was Cleo. Another lady had her grey there to be checked for cancer. He had a limp and she was afraid it was osteo. I sure hope not. There were lots of different kinds of dogs. There were 2 separate people there with mastiffs. They were both sweet dogs. There was a great dane, a standard poodle, a boxer named Blizzard(I bet you can't guess what color he was!), 2 Australian shepherds, and several mutts. It was fun to pet them and talk to the owners. Dog owners are usually nice it seems. At the end, a young man came in with his pit bull. The poor thing had been attacked by another pit bull at a dog park. The other owner had tried to pull his dog off and it just made the wound bigger. It was dripping blood all over and what was scary was that it was also spraying in little droplets. I told the young man that I hoped his dog was okay. I am not certain that it was going to make it. It was bleeding really bad. Please keep that young man in your prayers.
  6. I broke my right shoulder in a freak accident so I walk the dogs with my left hand. They walk on the left of me. One of them likes to go back and forth behind us. When we are out in public, I keep the leashes shorter so they cannot wander as Ziggy likes to do. I walk them that way because after my surgery, I couldn't hang on tight enough with my right hand. Dawn broke 2 different leashes when we first got her. Now, we have a double leash we use for her.
  7. It sounds to me like he is super happy to be with you. This may be what you are doing, but I have a jumper too. I have to wait at least 15 minutes after I have come home to take them outside. If I don't, I am setting this activity up to happen. Maybe if you play with him with a stuffie before you go for a walk he will not try this either. Personally, I don't mind that he does this to me. He is very playful and was thrown off the track for wanting to play instead of run. I guess what I am trying to say is that I really think you can stop this behavior. Good Luck!
  8. Our first grey was like your Badger, too. She really didn't want to be messed with and prefered being alone. After about 6 months she was more happy and allowed us more access to her. One year later, there were lots of changes in her personality. WE CHIPPED! Ziggy came into our house like he had always been there. She saw him getting attention and decided she would like some of that attention too. She learned how to back up from him. Unfortunately, he learned to find the perfect spot to go potty. She had space issues when we first got her and she still does but not nearly as bad as they were. Try to relax and just enjoy your hound. He will most likely come around. Good luck!
  9. I was just checking in to see how he is today!
  10. Well, I also have a "cat safe" NOT so cat safe dog. He doesn't hurt the kitty but he does chase her. If she didn't run when he was around, I think it would be different. He only bothers her when we come in from a walkie. So, I am very diligent then to protect the old lady.(She will be 14 in 2 days.) She doesn't have a lot of sense because she rubs on him too. I think she actually likes his attention. I think in her kitty mind, she is playing with him because even though he chases her, he has never hurt her. I guess what I am trying to say is that if you are diligent, it may work out all right.
  11. I am so sorry! I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
  12. Two of ours fetch. I don't think we did much teaching. Dawn LOVES to fetch! She just stands beside you with her eyes on the stuffie. When you throw it, she takes off like a silver bullet. Our youngster loves to fetch but he fetches in a different way. He brings it to you and gives it back. Then, he tries to get it back, sort of like keep away. Once you throw it and your grey gets it, if s/he doesn't bring it back, I would go up to her and take it away and throw it again. She did it really quick! Good Luck!
  13. I am so sorry for your loss. It is so traumatic to lose a beloved pet right in front of your eyes. We lost one of our Persian cats this way. She had a massive stroke. It sounds just like what you experienced. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  14. Prayers for your Ekko! She is just too beautiful for anything to be wrong with her.
  15. I am so sorry to hear that you lost your Bailey! Please know that you are in my prayers.
  16. When you find the right one, or the right one finds you, it's a perfect match. Congratulations on your new addition!
  17. Well, today she is much better! She still has a little limp but nothing like yesterday. She would not even consider letting the boys be in the lead on our walkies. Did I mention that she is the alpha dog? She is the littlest and the only female. The boys don't care that she bosses them around either. Ziggy's paw has not bled since I got it stopped yesterday. They slept all evening. Next time, we will take a pretty long walk before we let them run. Maybe that will keep her from getting hurt again. She must have pulled a muscle. She is chasing the evil kitty away from her food bowl and playing a bit with her toys. I AM ELATED! Thanks everyone for listening to my panicking rant. Edited because I am not sure how to spell panic-ing. I can't get spell check to work. Sorry if it is misspelled!
  18. Well, we took them out for a run because the snow has melted and it was warm, in the upper 30's. They had a blast. As a matter of fact, we had no idea anything was wrong until we were leaving. I noticed that there was blood in the snow as we left. We looked all the dogs over and couldn't find the culprit. As we went to the car we had to go through a bit of deep snow. Dawn, our almost 9 year old, fell. She continued on as if she was fine. We didn't know she wasn't fine until we got to my mom's house. Then we noticed that she was limping. It has gotten worse but she doesn't react as I rub and work her joints. I am so worried that I am beside myself! I have cried and worried about this but I simply cannot afford to take her to the e-vet. When we got in the van, I found the bleeder. Ziggy's paw was cut. The top pad has been cut. I put pressure on it and got it to stop. Dawson is also limping worse. He always has a limp, that is why he was returned to our group. I am sorry that I am going on and on. I am just so worried. I am sitting here crying as I type this. I am so worried about my old girl! Please pray for her. If she isn't better by Monday, I'll take her to our vet.
  19. I wonder if chattering is a greyhound trait. I've never had any other breed do that.
  20. Welcome from Van Wert! Thankfully most of the snow is gone here but the wind is unbelievable.
  21. I am like you. I would not want to push it. I like to think positively and finding out, especially when your brain thinks it is bad, your heart can think it's not. I am so glad that is more like himself. I am praying that it was just a lot of infection. NO OS!!!!! Know that my prayers will be with you today and through the 1st!
