  1. He is still limping this morning! Myrtle stomped on the sore leg this morning and he screamed. I am going to give him another Rimadyl and call the vet when they open today. With it being Easter weekend, they may not be in today. I really think he got hurt playing with Myrtle yesterday morning but I am NOT sure of that. I have prayed so much. I believe God loves his creatures too. That C word is in my head though and I feel like throwing up!
  2. It is 12:40 A.M. right now and I don't know how I am going to go to sleep. I will worry all night long. I'm sorry to bellyache here but all of you understand.
  3. He is still holding it. I took him for a walk and he walked better outside than in the house. He wouldn't eat his treats when we came in. I have manipulated the paw and leg like crazy but he doesn't act like that hurts. He and Myrtle played this morning before I walked them. I wonder if he pulled a muscle playing with her. She was jumping like crazy one time when I took them out later. I wonder if she could have stomped on him. Oh yeah, I gave him a Rimadyl. edited cause I can't spell when I am all worked up!
  4. Oh no! I am worried. I had a great day. It was our first day of Spring Break. Daws was crying this morning because my DS wasn't out of bed yet. Once he was up all was right in his world and he was fine. Just about 10 minutes ago, he started walking around the house holding his paw and crying. He couldn't lay down. It felt like he was cramping in his back legs but he was holding his front one. I am scared! I found a pain pill but I have not given it to him yet. While I went looking for it, he laid down and is resting. He is not sleeping but he is peaceful. I don't know what to do. I felt his whole paw but I did not see anything on it or in it. Please pray for my big guy. He will be 10 in two weeks. He is very sensitive and can feel my mood. I have to be careful. I can't figure out how to get the picture to show up! What am I doing wrong?
  5. All of mine have done that as they get older. I was uneasy when my old guy, who will be 13 in a couple weeks, started to do that too. Dawn did it all the time as she got older.
  6. Ziggy and Myrtle are also afraid of flying bugs! One time a grasshopper landed on Ziggy's back. He almost dislocated my shoulder trying to get away from that awful beast!
  7. I am so sorry for your loss! I am sitting here with tears on my face. I too hope that when I cross over my hound is there to greet me too!
  8. Ziggy has bad allergies. When they act up, he swells up just like that! It gets really red and swollen. He can't leave it alone and will bite and bleed. I wish you could give her Benedryl. That helps Ziggy so much!
  9. I am so sorry! You have lost so many in such a short span of time. I cannot imagine your heartache! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. It was such a beautiful tribute to your sweet boy.
  10. What a beautiful tribute for your heart dog! It came through loud and clear not only how much you loved him but also how much he loved you. Your post made me cry for you! I am so sorry!
  11. I have never taken a muzzle with me to the vets office. Everyone comes out and loves on the houndies. They have never done anything there to need it.
  12. No, we are not smokers. He has no problem barking. He has a very deep voice. He coughs as we get ready to go outside and breathes a bit funny while we walk. As soon as we get back in the house, he is fine. Now, I am scared.
  13. Thank you for all your thoughts. I am having trouble with my internet tonight.
  14. When they first come, it seems like they always want to get up at 5am. I just ignore them for a while and it goes away. I haven't ever have one do that unless they had a potty emergency. I wish you luck but I would just continue to ignore her. DON'T EVEN OPEN YOUR EYES! That is all it takes to get Myrtle all excited.
  15. Well, I need your help. Ziggy will be 13 in 3 months. For about the last year, he has been coughing. We took him to the vet because we were worried. They assured us that he has allergies. When he starts coughing, I give him a Benedryl and he is fine in a little bit. Here is my worry, when it is really cold outside, I used to think he was panting but after listening closer, I think he is gasping when we go out for our walks. When he gets inside, he sort of clears his throat, coughs a little bit, and then he is okay. Could this be asthma? Should I take him in to the vet? Should I put a sock over his muzzle to go on walks when it is cold? That is the only time he does it. Sorry for so many questions, but I feel safe asking all of you!
  16. I too have had issues with the green bag. It only affected one of my 3 houndies. She has major diarrhea while on it. I switched to the red bag and all is well in our world. I even called IAMS to find out if they had changed the formula and they said they hadn't. I can't believe that I did that but my hounds are my family too!
  17. I understand on all points. I worked a part time job too when I first got my job. I don't want you to go through what I did either. I am surprised dthat he did not settle down in your room. Your smell is there. He is happy there. Do you have a tv or radio playing when you leave? That helped mine a bit.
  18. We just went through that! I rushed Ziggy to the vet. They gave him a steroid shot and some antibiotics. The steroid shot was in case it was a reaction to a bug bite or something. The antibiotics are in case the swelling is from an abscessed tooth. His face was really swollen. There were no hives. I was so worried so I understand. Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.
  19. Well, I too am a teacher so I am gone for a long time. I do not have a dog walker but I am home around 4 every day. I have three hounds now but my first hound who has passed never had a bit of SA. We got her a pal at the next greyhound reunion and he had it bad! I have several questions. 1. Is your roommate home when your grey is crated? If so he may be trying to tell them he wants out. 2. Do you have to work a second job? That is a lot of time for any dog to be crated. I am not trying to be hateful but that is a long time. For another thing, I can't imagine getting all of my work done if I had a second job. I grade papers until 9 - 10 each night! 3. Did something change at that time? I bet he got used to you being home for the Christmas break and just really misses you! 4. How do you know he cried for an hour? Were you home? If you were, he knew it and wanted you. If your roommate was there, he knew it and wanted attention from them. Greyhounds are very attached to their humans and love the interaction. I wish mine would have just barked and whined. He tore the back off our love seat, ate the wood furniture, and liked the sour lemon stuff you can put on it to discourage them. He would lick it off. He was just very destructive. On the positive side, once you get him through that, they are the best dog you could ever want. Ziggy is a sweetheart and is very good. I will tell you that he got better when we got another hound! GOOD LUCK!
  20. Trust me, you will know. Dawn lived for 2 - 3 more years after diagnosis. Get her some vanilla Ensure. We gave that to Dawn for years. She loved it so we gave her half a bottle a day. She loved to eat but her appetite was not so great for a while. She was on antibiotics every month for a week and that helped too. I probably let her go a bit too long because she started to bleed. That was awful. She wanted to live!
  21. I'm sorry if I came off negative. When Dawn was diagnosed, she had a couple of good years. She was on antibiotics part of every month and it helped her out. For quite some time, she was just fine. We had her for at least 2.5 years after that. Its just that when she started going downhill, it happened very quickly.
  22. Once she refused to eat, I just let her have whatever she wanted which wasn't much. When she started bleeding, I knew it was time. I still feel guilty and it was 3 years ago. Good luck, I hope you can get her to eat again. Mine would eat her Ensure vanilla until the end. I felt that it was good for her.
  23. Ziggy has been without his eye for about 4 years. He also had glaucoma. We tried all kinds of drops. They would work for a while and then not so much. He was in so much pain that we had the eye removed. We had also taken him to an ophthalmologist who would do it for about $950 but our local vet did it for $500 without a fake eye. We didn't think he could see but after the surgery he ran into lots of things. We assume that he could see shadows and dark and light because this adjustment was the worst. It took him about a month to adjust to this and then he became the old Ziggy. He had become crotchety and the vet said that it was because the glaucoma pain made it feel like he had a constant migraine. Now he is so much fun again! He plays all the time now and he is almost 13! The only bad thing now is that he is absolutely scared to death of the television set! He has no depth vision so you have to be sure that children do not go at him on that side because it startles him so much. It is not a terrible recovery. They do need to wear the cone of shame. He hated to walk at night because the wind freaked him out at night because of the movement. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk. But be assured, all will be fine!
