  1. Welcome to Greytalk! I am expecting a new hound soon. This is really typical for a new hound to have loose stools at first. Good luck and welcome from Ohio!
  2. I too have a screamer. We have found that the only way to keep him from screaming is for me to be with him. He recently had surgery. I had to stay with him until they had him out. I held his paw until he was asleep and there was no screaming. I don't know if you were there for her or if they took her away from you. Does your vet speak soothingly to her? My vet is very quiet and calm and I think that helps.
  3. How about chicken or beef baby food? Dawn was on Ensure. She loved the vanilla and would lap that up like it was candy. Mine really like cottage cheese and peanut butter too. Good Luck!
  4. He sure is gorgeous! We lost our little girl 3 months ago. We have been looking at black girlies for our boy to have a playmate!
  5. Good Luck! It is so much fun to add another hound. We usually crate the newbie for a while when we leave, but . . . it all depends on the hound. Ziggy had to be crated the longest. He had SA in a big way. However, we didn't crate Dawson at all. He was the easiest hound to bring in the house. He is very easy going. We did muzzle all of them for a while when we were gone. We have never muzzled in the car. Ask quesstions about your new dog before you take her home and feed her with Rhythm. We brought a dog home and fed them all together. He bit Ziggy's face and had to have emergency surgery to patch him up. It was our fault but I took him back. All 3 dogs had their own bowls with a food and water. We have a big water bowl that they all share, also. Have fun getting ready for your new hound and remember, we need pictures!
  6. I have told this before, but Ziggy had it bad! He tore the back off of our loveseat. He ate some wood off of our furniture. It stopped suddenly when we adopted our 3rd grey. He is now the perfect hound. You would never know he had SA.
  7. My boys are around 77 pounds. They get 3 cups of food a day with cottage cheese added for one meal. They also get a tablespoon of canned meat each morning.
  8. Ziggy does this a lot. He gets grass stuck in his mouth, way in the back. He's always fine later.
  9. I am sitting at my computer crying right along with you. They touch your heart and grab you. It hurts so much to say goodbye. I'll pray for you!
  10. I am so sorry! It is so hard to lose them. We knew it was coming but it didn't make it any easier. Suddenly, like you had would be even worse! I will keep you all in my prayers.
  11. I am so sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
  12. I am so sorry! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
  13. Okay, I'll be the dumby and ask. What the heck is a chook?
  14. Please don't feel like you need to ignore your dog. He sounds like he has really bonded to you already. Also, I love to have my dogs on the bed with me. You didn't do anything wrong. One dog is a bit territorial but the other lets you move him anywhere. I had major SA with one of my dogs. It was tough to work through. He actually tore the back off of the loveseat! Good Luck!
  15. Well, I brought him home without getting surgery. The machine that tests the blood was not working. I did not want to do the surgery without it so they sent it off and I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks for all your prayers. I'll update as soon as I find out anything.
  16. I know you're right! I will try my best. I know that it is for the best as his eye is so swollen.
  17. I doubt that I sleep at all tonight. Ziggy has glaucoma and will lose his eye tomorrow. Our family vet reccommended it and OSU said he should have it out too. This is so hard. He has a hard time with aneasthetic(sp?). When he was attacked, he screamed the whole time the vet stitched him up. He told me that I would need to be with him to keep him from getting stressed out. So, I hope I don't bawl my eyes out! If he screams, I WILL be a bawling mess. Please keep him in your prayers. We lost Dawn a month ago and I couldn't handle losing Ziggy too. Of course he will have pre-surgery blood tests. I am just worried!
  18. I thought and thought all of these wonderful things to say about her. When I actually started typing, all I wanted to do was cry. I'll do a better job later. She was a great hound and super friend! Thanks for all of your kind thoughts and words. It helps.
  19. I have tried to start this several times but I just could not get myself to finish it. Our sweet little girl is gone. I feel awful. I took her to the vet and had her put to sleep and she did not want to go into the vet's office. It seemed that she knew why we were there. She was suffering so much that I didn't want her to try to make it one more day. She was bleeding from her mouth and throwing up blood. She wouldn't eat anything. I tried baby food, ice cream, yogurt, chicken, cottage cheese, cheese, milk, cheese crackers, and anything else I could think of to try. She couldn't lay down for too long at a time without having to get up and move around. Anyway, I cannot think of her without tearing up. I think I feel more bad for myself because I miss her so much. We got Dawn in late August of 2005. She ran right up to our DS who was 6 and gave him a big kiss. I had read that they did not kiss and had told him that. Boy were we wrong. She was a big kisser. She loved her family, and gave us lots of kisses. She had a special bond with our DS. She slept with him every night. She would go in and stand by his bed for special loving. Then, she would flop onto her bed and sleep most of the night. He was hers. That was how it seemed. If there was a storm, she would go in his room and lay right beside his bed. She wanted to protect him. We hadn't had her for too long when we decided to go away. We usually took her with us but this time we didn't. My DH had just bought a huge bag of toilet paper. She had a heyday while we were gone. She shredded the whole bag! Our living room looked like it had been snowed in. I laughed and laughed and laughed. She trained us because we never left toilet paper out again. She was a great friend. We will miss her always. Run like the wind, Sweets and know that your mama misses you with all her heart! Run free Sweets! No more pain for you.
  20. I just went through that and it sounds like it to me! It was super scarey. He had a temp of 107.2 when I got him back to the vet. He barely charged me anything for the after hours visit. I sure hope he got better fast for you. I am praying for you all!
