Steffmom23 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 (edited) We had a black grey for 10 years who died at 12½ after dealing with spinal stenosis for a couple of years. We waited 2 years to get another dog, and asked for not black so we wouldn't be constantly comparing and reminded of him. Even so I still call our male Jack a lot after our black boy. National black dog day was two days ago and it makes me think of him more. Can we post pics here of our black greys we have lost? Edited October 3, 2020 by Steffmom23 for clarity Quote
DocsDoctor Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 My dear Ken, enjoying himself in the park last November - I used this shot as my 2019 Christmas card: Very sadly he had to leave me in February, still aged only eight: I wrote him a tribute here. I had a red brindle before him, my first greyhound Doc; when he died I can remember telling the adoption kennels that I wasn't ready for another brindle, not wanting to find myself out on a walk and looking down at a brindle back that wasn't Doc's. Hence Ken, with his gleaming black one! When I went to find a successor to Ken, I ended up with a brindle once more - this time a silver brindle, my current greyhound Tiger Quote Clare with Tiger (Snapper Gar, b. 18/05/2015), and remembering Ken (Boomtown Ken, 01/05/2011-21/02/2020) and Doc (Barefoot Doctor, 20/08/2001-15/04/2015)."It is also to be noted of every species, that the handsomest of each move best ... and beasts of the most elegant form, always excel in speed; of this, the horse and greyhound are beautiful examples."----Wiliam Hogarth, The Analysis of Beauty, 1753.

queenwinniesmom Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I'm so sorry for your loss of Jack. It's really hard sometimes when we see dogs who remind us so much of the ones we've lost. Lots of us post pics on special remembrance days---birthdays, anniversaries of loss. And National Black Dog Day! It's a perfect time to remember our beautiful black dogs. So yes, if you have more pictures, it would be great to post them. My special black angel dog is Winnie, the tripod queen. That's her in my avatar. She's been gone for quite a while. And our Angie, who is another beautiful black dog, reminds us more and more of Winnie all the time, especially as she is getting more silver. We sometimes think she is channeling the Queen. rsieg Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 My old man Max, passed away in January 2018. He was a double-bounce, came to me at just over 10 years old and made it to almost 13.5 years. He was a wonderful buddy to me, and tolerated (maybe even liked?) by Logan. I actually did not think I would like a black greyhound, but he came as an overflow foster and ended up staying :-) Here is a time sequence from August 2017 (I may have it backwards in time, but I love the last shot). EllenEveBaz Posted October 4, 2020 Posted October 4, 2020 I've can't access all my digital pics of Romie, my beautiful, quietly reserved black hound, but I have a beautiful pic on my dresser of my little niece on the sofa with Romie, who crawled in behind her. He was aloof with most adults but loved loved loved kids. I lost him at age 9 to lymphoma. I asked at the adoption kennel who needed a home the most. I was told that Romie had been there almost a year, constantly overlooked. "There's not a thing wrong with him, " I was told. "But he's quiet and people looking into his crate just see an old black dog." Quote National black dog day was two days ago and it makes me think of him more. "But he's quiet and people looking into his crate just see an old black dog." This is why we adopted Buddy (who is still with us). We went looking for a German shepherd and came home with a greyhound! Buddy had been at the kennels for a few months, and when we waved some chicken through the bars to get him to come to us, he lifted his head, gave a big sigh and struggled off his bed with the air of someone who thought ‘why bother?’. He wasn’t very demonstrative so probably didn’t look like an exciting proposition, but all of his careers were sorry and glad to see him go which I think says a lot. He wasn’t our first choice but as lots of people say, you get the dog you need, which is not always the one you want. And we are so happy about that! Quote Buddy Molly 🌈 5/11/10-10/10/23

Time4ANap Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Black dogs rule! I am so sorry for your loss. We currently have Kate, a broodie who came to us last year from a farm. Kate Previously, we had Allie who came us after being attacked by the other fosters in a home and who we didn't think would make it through the night when she arrived. We "co-owned" Allie along with a couple of other people here because we all wanted her and decided to share her along with the medical expenses that came with her. She spent time at all of our houses and loved being here with Rocket. This is her after she recovered. Miss Jan from Camp Greyhound had posted a video of Aiden talking, and Allie was determined to find him. I miss this bossy little girl, https://youtu.be/6zoNa6Quqic Quote Camp Broodie.
