just seeing this too and sending prayers that the radiologist sees clear too. I was always paranoid about ANY limp but after Nube, it's like a knife to the heart when it starts, so totally understand. :hope :hope

I'm so glad that the x-rays don't show anything suspicious - we all know how frightening a sudden, unexplained limp is!

Now to just keep him from being too crazy and re-aggravating it!

Sorry, I've been pretty self-absorbed today and I'm just getting around to Stewie. So very glad that the x-rays didn't show anything alarming! Also hope Stewie will rest up like the good boy he is. Hugs to all of you!

Stewie is still limping quite badly and we are not really sure what is going on. Spoke to our vet yesterday even though the practice was closed and he told us again he saw nothing on the films and four other vets who looked at them saw nothing. We discussed a possible soft tissue injury and he stated it can take up to two weeks to heal. Has anyone experience with that type of injury and what we can expect as we thought Stewie would be a bit better by now? He is only on Medicam at this point in time.

Tks.

Kyle, Walter had a limp not once but twice - it was his front leg. We were terrified at first that it was osteo but the vet said no and we waited and watched. The limp slowly subsided but it took the better part of a month before it was completely gone. Medicam, leash outings for business and lovings should do the trick.

Roodie, who just broke his toe did not put any weight on his foot for over a week but is now walking great save the exceptional hop. We're still leash outing him and taking it easy but it;s been over a month now. Though I'm sure this will bother him from time to time.

I once asked our vet when they told us to leash walk our Wardy, who had GME and an old C2-C3 fracture. I asked the vet, "dont they know that they're in pain and not to run?" and the vet said, "Hell no, they're dogs". I've never forgoten that.

Hugs to you all, and hoping your boy heals quickly.

The exact same thing just happened to Treasure. Clear X-rays after limping. She, too, was diagnosed with a soft tissue injury. She seems much better now, but she was in a lot of pain, as much pain as I had even seen from Phoenix with his osteo. The injury happened at least two weeks ago; I was out of town so I don't know exactly when. She is finally better, but not completely. She still isn't doing stairs, but hopefully that will come soon. Hopefully Stewie will be better soon, also.

Soft tissue injuries have their own timetable for healing and Stewie's healing process may take much longer than expected. Give him every chance to heal by leash walking every time he leaves the confines of the house and confine him as much as is reasonable for him when he is alone in the house.

I learned those lessons the hard way with one of mine. I was told to expect 4 weeks to heal, but it ended up being 5 months due to aggravating the injury after 8 weeks despite following my own advice.

I understand your heart-pounding, sick to your stomach concern. I am praying that Stewie is a slow healer, just like my Fuzz.

Thanks everyone. We'll be keeping Stewie calm for the next little while in order to let it heal. Now that we have an idea of timeframe, that's something to gauge it by.

Holmes gave us a scare a couple years ago. Two sets of xrays later and we were referred to a sports medicine vet. A thorough physical exam of the injured leg revealed an injured gracillous muscle. Holmes' treatment was rimidyl, twice daily warm moist heat, massage and stretching. The vet, who is also a Physical Therapist, showed me how to do the massage and stretching. Holmes also had to be leash walked for bath rooming, no additional exercise for the first couple weeks. He did make a full recovery. I would recommend gently massaging Stewie's leg muscles and watching for any signs of discomfort.

Joe has wonky back legs, but nothing shows on X-ray. Two years ago, we were told to keep him on strict rest for something like 12 weeks. No sofa, no running, leash walks only. Up and down the stairs only to go to bed at night and come down in the morning. That got him "right" again, but we're still careful about lots of stairs, big hills, strenuous walks, serious running, and the like. We let him do some of everything, but not all at once, and we make sure he rests after. If he does something crazy, I give him 1/2 a Rimadyl before he starts to hurt.

And every time he limps, I panic. :)

I know how frustrating an undiagnosed limp is.

Twiggy has been skipping steps on her LR leg for over a year now (you know how lucky I am to be able to say that!). She's been seen by all kinds of specialists and alternative medicine practioners, x-rayed, ct-scanned, etc. and we have absolutely no reason for her limp.

She also had a significant soft tissue injury back in early Jan. which healed completely within a few weeks.

The year + old issue doesn't respond to supplements or pain meds, and gets neither worse nor better.

I guess my point is that sometimes a limp is just a limp. (even in an osteo hound) :)

Believe me, I know how much you want to figure out the cause. I hope you can find something that will alleviate this for Stewie.

It took Ace a couple of weeks + an acupuncture visit + a visit to the chiro to be "right" again after she slid a little bit in the mud and hurt her shoulder/neck. I still put her in the little yard to keep her from running. She doesn't like it, but, it's better than having her be miserable and in pain.
