Sad Update. Billy Passed Away.

Hi there.

Some of you may remember my grey, Billy, had a lump the size of half a baseball on his side.

I went to the vet, and the vet said it was a hematoma.

Well, last Sunday, December 9th, when I arrived home, Billy was his usual happy self, had a good supper, ran outside for a while but then, an hour later, he just collapsed. His legs were all spread appart. I spoke to him but he didn't look like he was "there"...

I called my roommate to help me pull him up and place him in a more comfortable position. That's when I saw his tongue, which was completely grey. Grey skin is a clear sign of brain damage in humans so I quicky realized he was having a stroke. Also, one eye was looking straight ahead and the other was occillating. His heart was going super fast and then, super slow, then, it just stopped.

I cried sooooo much. He was only 8 1/2. I think the blood just started to recede and a blood clot formed and got stuck in his brain. :(

That's my sad story. :(

I am so sorry. That sounds like a truly awful experience and I can only relate it to when Jack collapsed at home, but he lived another three days at the vet, and he was 13 1/2. To lose Billy at 8 1/2 like that must have been devastating. :(

Doesn't sound as if there was anything anyone could have done. I know it's no particular comfort right now, but maybe you'll be able to look back in a while and take comfort in the fact that he didn't have a long-drawn-out, painful illness, but passed away quite quickly. He probably wasn't aware of anything very much in those last moments. :bighug:

Yes, exactly. It took in all, 10 minutes and his heart stopped beating. By the time he hit the floor when he collapsed, he had already stopped feeling and "being there"...

And also, I was there the whole time, I "spooned" with him and cuddled so he wasn't alone.

I am so very sorry. Our Jack passed away in June under very similar circumstances and it is very heartbreaking when they die in your arms and there is nothing you can do.

Run free Billy, run free sweetie... :gh_run

How heartbreaking. I am so very sorry but glad that you were with him. I am sure that he was able to sense that on some level. When Zoe arrested after her dental, they were doing CPR and had me rush there. While they were working on her, I was able to cradle her head and speak to her. Her heart would try to regulate itself when I spoke. The vet told me that Zoe knew I was there, just like Billy knew you were there with him. Hugs to you.
