Guest Downtownhoundz
I had to drop Bunny off at the vets a few minutes ago because he can't poop! It started yesterday and last night I gave him a cocktail of canned pumpkin, milk and mineral oil mixed with his kibble. Now he's leaking poop and has been straining all morning. He obviously has a big amount of it because he's bulging at the rectal area. His brother had similar issues that deteriorated causing his death. Now I'm worried about Bunny, I just couldn't take it if anything happened to him. They're talking about x-rays and blood work. I'm just waiting to hear from them now. tbhounds
Chances are your hound was not constipated but, may have been straining because of diarrhea---giving him the pumpkin etc may have made the diarrhea worse.
macoduck
Often the pumpkin is suggested here to help dogs get firmer poop. It had the direct opposite effect on my Gracie. Guest Downtownhoundz
He has a big "bulge" back there in the rectum just like his rainbow bridge borther used to get. I haven't heard back from the vet yet and it's been over an hour...I'm really scared. What if they find something..I just couldn't cope with it right now! Guest Downtownhoundz
The vet just called and the cleaned him out good! She said he had three large plum sized pieces of poop in there, so that's why he couldn't pass it. Then she asked me if he has access to grain as his poop was really strange looking. I had just got him a seemingly good quality dog kibble that was supposed to be grain free, hoping he would eat that. He'll eat it only if I pour milk on it! Back to the drawing board with him! PrairieProf
How scary. Glad he's over the, uh, lump for now. I'm sure the vet didn't mean normal digestible cooked grain in dog food though, which wouldn't make his poop look strange, but something like a pile of raw grain Bunny ate directly. Could he have gotten into anything unusual? Guest Downtownhoundz
My vet is the ABSOLUTE best !!! They gave him a bath and cleaned his rear for free! They said he was a really good patient and they love him there! I have such a headache from all of this getting myself worked up! They said it looked like oats or bran in there....I have no clue, unless he sneaks downstairs at night and helps himself to cereal!
