Guest mbfilby Posted October 17, 2012 Share Posted October 17, 2012 Sadly Karson our beagle/basset mix went quietly to the bridge this afternoon. Karson was a stray hunting pack dog left behind by hunters, who I found in the bush in South Carolina, wounded, lame, and starving. We took Karson to the vet in hopes of finding him a home, but there were no rescue/humane societies in our area, and the vet made us an offer to share the cost of "fixing him up" if we wanted to take him home. Karson came home a few weeks before our first greyhound Mickey arrived, and poor Karson had no clue how to be a pet. He mostly laid in his bed and cowered every time any human came near him. It was pretty obvious that he had a tough life before being left in the woods. Once Mickey arrived, Karson emulated her, and found his "pet" legs. He copied nearly her every move, and became a happy, outgoing little greyhound wannabe. He has lived nearly all of his pet years surrounded by a pack of greys, and fit in just nicely. Most recently putting up with two 2 year old rambunctious greyhound "puppies", and holding his own in play fights. Karson moved with us from South Carolina to Alabama, and finally to Canada where he absolutely fell in love with snow. He was a well traveled happy little tail wagger, and loved new adventures. Karson's health has been declining over the past year. Recently he had been having a hard time climbing the stairs, and was coughing and putting on a lot of weight. The vet confirmed congestive heart failure this afternoon, and he was PTS. Unfortunately I am away at work and couldn't be there, but DW and our niece were with him when he passed.
