I'm so sorry. You are right, every greyhound is special and even without knowing him I know Mighty was, too. You gave him the best gift ever, a loving person & home. I hope all the good memories will help heal your heart.

I am so very sorry. It certainly sounds like Mighty and you were made for each other. I truly believe that certain dogs come in to our lives with very specific "jobs" to do for us. Please do not think that you failed Mighty in any way. You never did. You gave him love every single day. That love will continue to exist in your heart and in the world. Like so many others here on GT, I know how hard a sudden, unexpected loss can be to process. It can feel like your heart has been ripped out of your chest. My heart is breaking for you right now. Please know that all of us will be here supporting you.

Godspeed, Mighty.

I am so sorry for your loss, weeping here at my computer for you and Mighty. Although the circumstances were different, I also lost my heart boy Henry to a sudden illness at just 9 years old after having adopted him at age 4. I know how you feel--devastated, shell shocked, lonely, and angry that a dog so special was taking away quickly and too soon.

Mighty will be with you in heart forever. Thank you so much for giving him the love and home he deserved. Run free, special boy.

Cheryl, mom to Remy and Woot. Always in my heart Haley, Henry and Sheba.

I'm sorry for your heart.

Your story speaks to me that you and your ex were able to share custody of your special dog. You are both grieving. While we understand, you were the people lucky to know Mighty best. And how lucky you were.

God bless every one of you, it really does help to know that my poor boy was in the minds of so many of you today. I'm home for lunch right now and not having him at the door, waiting to greet me was awful. I've thought about it all day (not getting much work done today I'm afraid) and have decided that after a while, when I'm in a better frame of mind, the best way to honor Mighty will be to adopt another Greyhound. I know he or she won't be the same, but the thought of living without a Greyhound in my life is just not something I want to do. Again, thanks to each and every one of you. It really does help, I know that he'll be in my thoughts for the rest of my life but having you all thinking about him is a real tribute to the most loving dog I have ever known.post-25000-0-44082400-1333125442_thumb.jpg

There he is on my bed - where he spent 70% of his time!

I'm so sorry to hear about Mighty. Thank you for giving him such a loving forever home. When you go for a walk and feel a gentle breeze just remember that this is Mighty being with you (as he will forever be the wind beneath your wings).

When I lost my Henry, I had a hard time thinking about adopting a new hound. A friend told me that Henry would want me to help another dog, and that helped me a lot. I am sure Mighty would want the same for you.

Same situation here. I was spiraling downward after Jack...and a friend asked me what I was waiting for....as she said, waiting won't bring him back and it is what he would want....So yes, when you are ready, getting a grey is truly the best way to honor all that Mighty brought into your life.

My blog about grief The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not get over the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
