MandysMom Posted June 22, 2010 Share Posted June 22, 2010 Ella, an Anatolian Shepherd, was adopted by my neighbors as a young dog a few hours before her time was up at the local shelter. She had been traumatized and wouldn't come near the husband for almost a year. She was always a reserved girl, but when I adopted Mandy, they became best buds. They would walk side-by-side, sniffing the same things, and just generally enjoying each others' company. When the neighbors had a family situation that caused them to be away from home for 13+ hours each day, I started walking Ella and her "sister" Gracie, a Mastiff every afternoon. I would get comments frequently about how well the dogs walked together. It was also nice to walk 300+ pounds of dogs -- scary people tend to go the other way! The neighbors moved away about a year ago and I have really missed them, especially the pups. Ella was terrified of loud noises, probably part of her kinship with Mandy. Her "mom" just let me know that last Thursday, during a major thunderstorm, Ella passed away, presumably from a stroke. Godspeed sweet Ella, there is no thunder at the bridge.
