Guest WhithersMom
We lost our 4 year old girl, Gracie, about a week and a half ago. She had only been with us six months, and died due to a massive seizure that killed her while we rushed her to the emergency vet. This poem came through me suddenly on Monday night, and I wanted to share it with the group. ---Deb, Rob, and Whither O, Selfish Heart! – Dedicated to Gracie – Deb Jarvis 3/8/10 O, Selfish Heart! That holds and sways forth In keening tears, That rock my frame hard. Even now, days passed Echoes lodging solidly inside. Be still, and listen close The right words are there. O, Selfish Heart! Who cries forth, the death! The death of one So close, so fine, so dear Whose passing has come And left devastation in its wake. Be still and listen close For every-nothing has changed. Listen to the winds O, heavy Heart of mine. Realize that death Comes to all creatures Some of soon or late. Feel the sweet breeze that blows Be still and listen close And understand the new world. I envision, O Heart A time that will come Some long years from now When I am old, my eyes dim. Then I, too, shall pass And meet with those long gone. Be still and listen close For they speak only of love. So be calm, O Selfish Heart And know that sorrow Flees with the turning seasons. Love will breathe new life And I will find hope again In the deep still eyes of another. Be still and listen close For the universe is calling. Dry your tears, O Heart And try not envy Those who loved before. Think only that the deepest love Is that between two souls, Two beings who understand How to be still and listen O Selfish Heart, it is that time. racindog
An extremely wise, moving, and poignant poem. I believe she gave it to you because I see wisdom in it that often is only revealed from the other side. Thank you for sharing it with us. I will use it too. It so beautifully reveals the wisdom of the ages if one has reached the point in their journey to see it: "And meet with those long gone. Be still and listen close For they speak only of love...... Love will breathe new life..... Be still and listen close For the universe is calling. Think only that the deepest love Is that between two souls, Two beings who understand How to be still and listen." Thank you Gracie.
