mom2four Posted February 4, 2010 Share Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Darlene (Valliejo2001) phoned me tonight and asked me to post this for her. Up until now Darlene had not wanted to share this publicly, but she had confided in Tracy, Vicki and myself. At 12:50 PM EST on February 3rd 2010, her beloved husband David passed away at home after a 7 month battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by most of his family. David was a wonderful, independent man who cared deeply about his family. When David and Darlene were married in 1982, he became a father to not only his own children, but he became a wonderful father to Darlenes children as well. Besides his family Davids other big love was Greyhounds. Many Greyhounds touched Davids life, but at his request he has asked that his urn be placed between Nolan Ryan, so that he could smile on David all the time, and Vallie Jo, who will just be her snobby Princess self. David and Darlenes current Greyhound, Wandy Woo, knew that her Daddy was ill, and had been stressed out over the last seven months. But, today, as the funeral director was taking Davids body away, Wandy walked up and kissed Davids arm. Needless to say everyones tears started flowing with this gesture of love for her Daddy. Darlene told me that as soon as the furniture, which had been moved around to accommodate Davids hospital bed, was placed back in its original position, Wandys stress melted away. She had been sleeping quietly beside her Daddys chair for a number of hours already before Darlene spoke to me. One of Davids requests was that their current little racer, Rockin Robin, come home to live when she was done her racing career. This request will of course be honored by Darlene. The private ceremony is expected to be on Monday, February 8th at 10:30 AM. Wandy Woo will also attend her Daddys funeral. Our sincere condolences go out to Darlene and her family at this very difficult time.
