Miles (prairie Dog)

Recommended Posts

I never expected to lose a former foster so soon. Prairie Dog came to me in April, the biggest, sweetest, happiest boy, after an extended stay with Belinda just outside Tri States in Charleston. He had a decent racing career, winning the Tri States Night of Stars in 2004, and produced two litters. Plus he was being held for at least a year in limbo before they were able to get the go ahead to adopt him out. So he was already 7 when he came to Maryland.

I offered to foster him since I thought he might be around a little longer than a usual young dog right off the track. Boy was I wrong. The first folks that came to see him wanted him and spoke for him and he was headed out the door in just under a month. His adopters named him Miles. In the middle of August, just three shorts months after going home we got the word that he was diagnosed with Osteo. They kept him happy and managed his pain but last night it was too much and they let him go.

(trying to show how big he was using Zuni as a comparison)

Christie threw a party and I took him along--he even put up with little Lucas drooling on him :lol

Such a sweet beautiful boy. I'm glad I got to meet him, however briefly. So so sorry he had to go so soon.

Hugs to his adopters - they didn't have him nearly long enough (but is it ever long enough??)
