Guest greytful4
This morning kylie's condition seems worse. She's stumbling more, can't seem to keep her balance and now her head hangs down and off to the side.I'm so scared here. The vet seemed to think it was disc related on Friday. She's on Deramax,it's Easter and I'm wondering should we go to the ER...what is this that's happening to her? Please someone tell me what to do.... UPDATE* I just came home from the e-vet without her. They were gonna let her come home with me but she took a turn for the worse and is being transferred to a specialist in the morning. The vet didn't seem to think it was a disc problem. She did a full blood panel is is alarmed by how low her WBC and blood platelets are. Her WBC is 5.2 and the platelets are 62. I was going to bring her back home with me ,but she collapsed ,so they have her hooked up to an IV and is resting quietly. They checked her for any tick related problems and other internal functions...all is normal except the blood. My beautiful, healthy, robust 73 lb girl has dropped down to 65lbs. I'm bracing for the worst, this is gonna break my already fragile heart. Edited April 19, 2009 by greytful4
ZoomDoggy
That sounds frightening. I can only say if it were me, I'd take her to the E-vet. Maybe try calling them first and describe in detail what you're seeing. Quote ~Aimee, with Flower, Alan, Queenie, & Spodee Odee! Guest zoolaine
I don't have any experience with these type of symptoms but I would take her to the emergency vet or at least call. Hugs and prayers to you and sweet Kylie.

CaliforniaGreys
That has to be so scary. I wish I had some advice. I've been through that only once with Tanner and it happened in the middle of the night. I ended up taking him to the e-vet, his head was just about touching the floor and he was crying. The e-vet after xrays knew it was his neck and we had to keep him very drugged for 7 days on Metacam, Torb, Tramadol. I don't know if any of this helps but I can tell you Tanner was fine after close to 2 weeks and pain free. Guest Annie
Anne, it does sound like a disc problem. Are you crate resting her? SHE SHOULD BE IMMOBILIZED unless going out to relieve herself Canyon's disc problem is in his cervical spine, and he also holds his head down constantly. If she is having difficulty and stumbling, it could mean that the disc herniation is pressing harder on her spinal chord. You need to get a referral to a veterinary neurologist from your regular vet ASAP. I will send you a PM with my phone number if you want to call me. Sending up prayers for Kylie. Guest Vinnie
Anne - I was so hoping that Kylie would be feeling better today and back to her normal oh so cute self. It is so hard when they are feeling bad, but even worse when you can't get into your regular vet to give you answers. I would call the e-vet to see if they are in and can give you suggestions, hopefully without having to move her and bring her in. Did your regular vet take xrays the other day? If not, e-vet may be able to give you some better answers and get her stabilized without additional pain. Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers and hoping that sweet Kylie is back to normal and pain free soon. Gus and Gracie are sending snuffly kisses to their favorite jimjam tester and model. Hugs and scritches.

Burpdog
Her WBC is fine for a greyhound. Plt low. They should just treat her for a TBD--don't wait. Get a shot of doxy and a shot of dexamethasone. Guest BoogieDown
I, too, was going to add that WBC of 5.2 sounds OK - those numbers are higher numbers than Boogie has always had. I don't know about platelet counts, though. I hope you get some answers quickly, and that Kylie is feeling better soon. Hugs to all of you.
