The Start Of Carrie's Treatment Plan

Recommended Posts

I left the decision about the tumor-removal surgery to my husband since Carrie is his girl, and I'm now 99.9% certain we will not be attempting the surgery (based on what he was telling his folks this evening). As Dr. Patty explained to us, it is a very large, multi-lobed, complex tumor. There's a good chance they would open her up, realize there's nothing to be done, and the kindest thing would be to just not wake her up. Since the surgery would have to be ASAP, we're not ready for that possibility. Or, even if they were able to remove it, since it's so complex, it would be relatively easy to miss some, or, there's a good chance that it has already metastasized. So, the surgery might buy her a few months, but she'd be recovering from major abdominal surgery during that time.

So, we're now going to be consistent about giving cyproheptadine as an appetite stimulant - I was kind of doing that here and there, but now we'll give one tablet twice daily. She's getting 75 mg of tramadol 3X/day and 50 mg of rimadyl 2X/day and 20 mg pepcid 2X/day. We're also starting her at 300 mg of artemisinin once daily, which is actually a little less than Dr. Couto was using for his trial, but with the supplies I have on hand, I can stretch my supplies to last 5 days, and by then, the new bottles should arrive.

I got in contact with our acupuncture vet and she is rushing two herbals to us - Wei Qi Booster and Stasis Breaker. Stasis Breaker is supposed to help shrink tumors, and the Wei Qi booster will help boost Carrie's qi (chi) and help her fight.

There are other supplements recommended by the cancer and artemisinin yahoo group, and I'll look into those, but we have to "pill" her for all of these - she will not eat anything that has pills in it. So I won't be adding anything else unless I'm certain it will help.

The only thing she is eating consistently is treats (and Nilla wafers), so I just ordered about 10 pounds of Burpdog biscuits to add to Carrie's cancer-fighting regimen. This is, of course, the most important part of her treatment plan. ;):P:) I'm sure Carrie will think so, anyway.

Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers, but we've had to increase her pain medication in the past few days and are still not controlling her pain, so we'll be sending her to the Bridge tonight.
