Hubcitypam Posted February 13, 2009 Share Posted February 13, 2009 (edited) Eight years ago this month I received a call after dark from Lubbock Animal Control to please come get a greyhound ASAP. They had found him in the 20 degree weather trying to eat out of a dumpster. When I got there the director told me to go on back and there was the skinniest saddest black greyhound ever who had been out so long he had on a very thick brown coat. When I walked into his pen he leaned into me so hard I almost fell over. I named him Romeo because he was such a lover. His tattoos were so faded we never knew who he was in his first life. I ran an ad in the paper as I did on occasion and it was supposed to say "Indy and Romeo need homes -- Reference check and home visit required -- adoption fee $150". However, it was printed as Indy and Romero need homes". Romeo/Romero was adopted by a most wonderful woman that had lost her lab some time before. Betty and Ro, as she called him, became tireless volunteers for our group and Ro logged some massive hours on his mat at Petsmart during Meet and Greets. Ro has been fading for some time and this morning he went to the bridge. Thank you Ro for being such a great ambassador for greyhound adoption. No one could have ever asked for a better second life.
