  10. No No No! This can't have happened. She was too young. Too vital. Too special. I am incredibly shocked and so inexpressibly sorry. I can't even imagine your pain. Godspeed Brooke.
  11. I agree absolutely with your advice. It isn't always obvious that a dog is in trouble, and I've had more than one dog go from "a little off" to very sick in short order. I'm glad that you risked the costs and sniggers, and that Star has recovered. It would be easier if you knew why...
  12. I second the longer leash and look away ideas. You might start in the yard for safety and convenience. Use a long line or two or three leashes together. Let her wander to the end and don't stare at her--look the other way and watch her from the corner of your eye. Praise when she goes. You'll soon be able to shorten the line (gradually) and be a little less...distracted. You might find that she is quicker to adapt with one type of elimination, but eventually she'll be comfortable doing either during walks.

  21. What a wonderful end/beginning to two not-so-happy stories. Congratulations to houndies and humans! A small correction: Humans think a 10 year old is a senior, but a lot of Greyhounds don't, at least mine haven't. Current example-in-residence, Kat, didn't retire until last fall and turned 11 this week. She is . Have fun with Manny and Ruby.
