  1. I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope Milo and Gelsey give you extra cuddles today. You are in our thoughts
  2. I loved this story last year and I love it again this year! the photos are great, with Whiskey as the sensible, mature fellow, and Lilly with the innocent face and a gleam of mischief that you rarely see anywhere other than on a puppy
  3. From someone with another 11 year old who hasn’t realised it… good luck with the treatment
  4. I’m sorry for your loss. I hope she’s chasing cats and squirrels at the bridge
  5. Whether he has sleep startle or not, whether he was awake as you thought or not, you could have hurt him when you picked him up which would cause him to snap. If it were me, I would think this was my fault and wouldn’t do it again. My dog will snap at me if I lean over him when he’s fuzzy from sleep, so it’s something I avoid doing. If I do it and he snaps, it’s my fault. I also whole-heartedly agree that there is no value in locking him another room. I hope at least there was a bed in there for him to lie on. In my naivety I also interpreted my dog’s roaching as an invitation to rub his belly. The result is that he doesn’t roach as much any more, which is something I regret, mainly because it makes me wonder if he doesn’t feel secure/safe enough to do it, but also because the sight of him roaching made me so happy. So yes, let sleeping dogs lie! It’s a saying for a reason!
  6. Happy birthday Annie! Maybe you should ask for a new chin rest instead of shoes
  7. Lots of practice, lots of encouragement and lots of praise. He will get the idea. My personal experience (very limited) of trying to get them to do something specific is that they will avoid it because you want them to do it, you will get frustrated and give up, and they will then decide to do it on their own. You will be ecstatic and they will look at you with a puzzled look as if to say ‘what’s the big deal?’. Greyhound and parent live happily ever after. Obviously in this scenario you don’t have the luxury of giving up, so keep practicing. It will come.
  8. Happy Thanksgiving to you! We are not having turkey although I hear that my in laws, who are currently in San Diego, are having barbecue smoked turkey. Not jealous at all!
  9. I came searching for this after finding Mark and Diva’s intro. Happy belated birthday Diva! You’ve landed on your feet
  10. I can’t believe I missed this! I’ve seen a reference to Diva in a couple of other threads, and now I know why! Congratulations to you all. It’s been a while since I’ve lost a dog (more than 20 years!) but I still remember the deflated feeling of coming home without that happy greeting. I’m so happy for you!
  11. She sounds like a good girl. Run free Averitt
  12. I should have added that there is a walk on the first Sunday of most months which starts at the Lark Lane entrance to Sefton Park which is run by Cheshire and Merseyside Greyhound Trust. They often need foster homes for their dogs…just saying. Good to hear about the Ford Fiesta as that’s the car I’m looking at next (I currently have a small SUV but Buddy hates it because he can’t see out of the windows and it’s hard for him to get in the boot)
  13. Happy birthday Punkin! I hope you got lots of treats and cuddles (I’m sure you did)
  14. Lots of people say that having two is easier than having one…I’ve been where you are now, feeling the same but have always stopped short of going to meet and greet another grey because of Buddy being so grumpy with other dogs (although someone we see regularly on our walks who is a former grey owner told us last week that we should just go and get one. Greyhound owners are enablers ). If Buddy were more predictable I would definitely have another.
  15. These are lovely photos from a beautiful place. I think there have been so many wonderful and diverse ways of commemorating WW1 for the 100th anniversary of the Armistice and I’m glad that there are permanent ones like this, and so happy the Woodland Trust got involved and did it well (I am biased; I am a member!)
  16. he looks right at home already! Welcome to GT, I’m looking forward to seeing more of this handsome guy
  17. I agree with all of the above, especially that your hound will tell you, although it may be subtle. Mine runs on the hot side so he only needs thin clothes (if any) when he’s waking, but he gets cold easily as soon as he stops, so we have coats, blankets and snoods to cover most eventualities. What you need when you’re at your accommodation will depend on how warm it is there. If your hound scratches his bed in the night, he could be cold. We usually check Buddy’s ears - if they are cold, he needs a jumper. And definitely take a waterproof! My Scotland experiences have rarely not needed one! Enjoy your trip!
  18. Welcome! Lovely to hear the stories of your canine companions and very much looking forward to seeing some photos too
  19. Sorry for your loss. Hopefully he will find his canine friends at the bridge and they can run together
  20. Sorry for your loss. Gus sounds like the perfect dog to get you ready for all the others to come. to you and Amy
