  1. Sending good vibes over from Buddy and family
  2. I was thinking this too. And I have somehow missed that there is a new hound at BatterseaBrindle’s place! Buddy enjoyed Fry day last year so I will have to see what I can put together for him (although he had Christmas dinner today as we are having a belated Christmas celebration this weekend with family)
  3. Sorry for your loss. Your tribute to her is beautiful
  4. I love this photo, she looks like such a sweet girl . No wonder you call her your smiler
  5. Aiden, you put David Attenborough to shame. Don’t eat the hairless bunny, they don’t taste very nice
  6. Thanks to you both. I did wonder about laryngeal paralysis as it’s been mentioned a few times on the forum but it didn’t seem to fit quite right. I will try to get a video and let you know what happens
  7. I’m not sure if this is a medical issue or behavioural issue but wonder if anyone else has experience of their grey making a clicking noise in their throat, with the cartilage moving up and back repeatedly. It is normally followed by Buddy having a grass eating frenzy. He’s done this for as long as we have had him (three years!) intermittently and I can’t see a pattern to it or any particular trigger. I don’t have a video of it (he is usually pretty desperate to get outside and eat grass so I am desperate to let him out rather than reaching for my phone). It’s nothing to do with his collar and I don’t think it has anything to do with needing a drink. Any clues?
  8. Poor Lambchop! She and the honking hedgie must be the most abused toys in greyhound history
  9. Knowing that a dog has sleep aggression wouldn’t put me off. It’s just like any other issue your dog has. You just learn to manage it. Knowing in advance just means you can manage it from the start rather than finding out from a near-death experience . Because Buddy is my first dog, I don’t have another to compare him to so I don’t know if there are degrees of sleep aggression, and maybe he’s not really that bad if I’m prepared to take another one on with that issue. Maybe it’s less that I’m brave, and more that I’m stupid
  10. Greyhounds are prone to dental issues (I read somewhere it’s to do with the shape/length of their dental arcade). He won’t miss a tooth or two but it you want to try and prevent him from losing any more it’s best to try and introduce a regular clean if you don’t already, using a soft toothbrush and specific doggy toothpaste (we use beaphar branded stuff but there are plenty on the market). If he’s been a racing dog it is likely that he will be used to having his teeth cleaned (Buddy mercifully was) but that might not be the case. If not, you can start him off by applying toothpaste along your finger and let Murphy lick it off. Then you start applying your pasted finger to his teeth (as if your finger was the brush). Then use a finger brush with toothpaste, and if you need to, progress to a soft brush.
  11. I’m sorry for your loss, but while you are sad because you had him for such a short time, remember that time was probably the best of his life, and he lived his last year knowing that he was loved. These posts always make me want to hug my hound for a minute longer
  12. Smithy probably meets up with his greyhound buddies and says ‘you’ll never believe the noises that come out of this guy during the night…’. Our dog doesn’t sleep in our room with us but we can still hear the midnight flapattack, but it’s one of the many endearing things he does. Sorry it’s not much help to you, but there’s no way I’d ever want to stop him from flapping!
  13. Curiosity is a sign of intelligence, so Auden must be one smart cookie
  14. It was obvious from the extreme action shot that it was going to end in (t)ears. Poor Lambchop. I hope he makes a speedy recovery
  15. Sorry it wasn’t better news but at least now you know and can (are) start to treat it. Sending our thoughts and hopes for a good outcome to you.
  16. Poor girl and poor you! I’m so sorry for your loss after such a short time. You were only just getting to know her but I’m sure she went to the bridge knowing she was loved
  17. I can’t offer help either but am wishing you the best, and that maybe you get news that is better than you are imagining
