  1. Hmmm, I think we need to see a picture of the garden before we decide…

    Sorry for your loss
  3. How is he doing? He looks very calm and settled in the photos (and has found himself a toy )
  4. Welcome home Guinness! Looking forward to hearing all your adventures!
  5. I agree. I wonder if those ladies need an apprentice?!
  6. He is a handsome fellow, although I was expecting him to have a white head , and I hope he travels better than his namesake. Will you continue with using a crate for him or have you made a space at the other end of the sofa from Grace? Hopefully they will hit it off
  7. Who knew that it was such a varied and interesting topic?
  8. @HeyRunDog, would you like me to post it on Buddy’s Instagram? I don’t have loads of followers (and at least half of them are Australian) but it might help spread the word a little more
  9. I agree with FiveRoooooers, I wouldn’t introduce them both at the same time, although Buddy was already on the Olewo carrots when we gave him slippery elm so we did feed the, together. The slippery elm didn’t do that much for him and we have had to reset our expectations of his poop. I’m sorry that I sound like broken record, but Buddy’s normal is poops which are on the soft side. We don’t have any experience of hookworms but from reading the many, many posts on here it seems they can be very difficult to clear and one negative sample doesn’t mean that your dog is free of hooks from what I understand. I’m probably telling you stuff you already know. Of course, it could be something new. I hope you find the cause
  10. I can’t offer much advice except to say that my dog (as many are not) is not fond of being hovered over / leant over, especially when lying down. We have had him for three and half years and that hasn’t changed, so we have. We don’t do it. And if we do and he reacts we consider it to be our fault. I also find it very hard to know what Buddy means/wants when he barks or growls sometimes. He is not a very vocal dog but he does growl when he’s excited and we don’t automatically think that it’s a display of aggression. Obviously I’m not there with you and can’t say for sure, but we look at his body language in conjunction with his vocalisation. I think that revoking furniture rights and being certain about him being awake when you approach him sound like good ways to start to tackle this. Other people will be able to more experience based advice. Good luck.
  11. Have you changed anything in his diet that has more water in it? If you contact your vet they will probably give you a bottle to collect his urine in and you can take this time (over the next day or two) to see if it’s a recurring issue or a one off, and decide if you want to go ahead with the urine analysis. Make an appointment for Monday and you can cancel if you don’t feel it’s necessary.
  12. Not much to add except that when Buddy had a couple of teeth extracted he had bloody saliva, so there were patches of watered down blood on the floor where he rested his nose, but no spotting, and no bright red blood so if that’s what you’re seeing it might suggest an origin other than inside the mouth. Don’t you just love the ‘find where the blood is coming from’ game?
  13. I’m so sorry. I can’t offer any advice but we are thinking of you and sending our best wishes
  14. That’s a lovely description of the (hopeful) transition from stray to loved pet. for Tete
  15. We will have to contain out collective excitement until next Saturday then. Where are you getting him from?
  16. they were great! It’s astonishing how little the breed has changed in 80 years, compared to something like the German shepherd, for example. I have to say that Buddy has the same unimpressed expression on his face when I do his ‘toilette’ for him, too.
  17. specially selected by Grace? Have you got room for another sofa?
  18. wot she said. It sounds like you need to take yourself and Grace to the nearest greyhound trust kennels and let Grace pick herself a companion. You are ready. Crazy maybe, but have you thought about fostering instead of committing to a permanent house guest?
  19. We have had our dog for almost four years and spent the first 2 1/2 worrying about how to firm up his poop. We have tried a couple of different foods (we always change it gradually, usually over the course of a month to be safe) and currently feed him a mid price complete kibble with either yogurt or kefir drink and Olewo carrots. The carrots add fibre to his stool and help produce a firm poop - in the first instance. The more poops he does on a walk, the softer they get. As I understand it, when a greyhound is taken out for a walk (and the goal is for him to poop) he will do two or three poops in quick succession. This means that the stool travels through his digestive tract quite quickly and less water is absorbed, giving the runny stool you are experiencing. This is quite normal, but we found that addition of carrots improves the consistency a bit - but not completely. This is our dogs ‘normal’, and we have stopped trying to fix him because there is nothing wrong with him. (The yogurt and kefir can act as probiotic supplements but honestly we add them just because he absolutely loves them). Presumably she has been tested for worms, but if you live in a region where hookworms are prevalent, a single negative result should be interpreted with caution. If not, is she being wormed frequently? Ours recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and we had to carry a bottle of water with us because we couldn’t pick anything up. But we have the added bonus of living in Britain in February so the rain pretty much takes care of cleaning up after us
  20. I was thinking the other day that you hadn’t been on for a while so its nice to hear from you. It sounds like Peggy is doing well for her age, although it’s inevitable that there will be some issues. I can’t help with advice but wish you as many more months together as possible
  21. I can’t help with the behaviour but we have a dog that is reactive on occasion so we have bought an ‘I need space’ banner for his lead (and a bright yellow jacket with the same slogan which we haven’t resorted to yet) from https://www.yellowdoguk.co.uk/ . Obviously this won’t help when dogs run at you but I find that it prompts some people to put their dog on a lead around us. Our dog is not muzzled for the reasons that greysmom suggests above.
