  1. My sweet boy Benjamin has developed some rather red paws in the last few weeks. He's always been a bit of a pink boy - being so white, when he exercises or it's hot he tends to flush on his belly and thighs, but it always fades away after an hour or so of cooling off (as a redhead with the same kind of issue, I have always totally related XD). When we first adopted him two years ago he had very pink paws for the first week or so, but from googling I put that down to his first proper exposure to bitumen/concrete sidewalks and sure enough it went away very soon after. Anyway, fast forward to now, and I noticed he was licking his paws a bit and that they were starting to get a bit red and irritated looking. It started with his back two paws but now seems to be affecting all four of them. I wondered if it might be a grass allergy given it's spring here in Australia and lots of grass seed/pollen about (although we never had any issue last spring), so have started washing his feet with an oatmeal shampoo after walksies in the evening, and then applying an oatmeal moisturiser afterwards. I've been doing that for almost a week, and so far it hasn't gotten any worse, but nor has it really gotten better... He doesn't appear bothered by it, he still enthusiastically wants his two walksies a day, isn't limping or avoiding his paws being handled and has proper appetite and everything, he just tends to lick his paws a bit more than normal, although he always stops when I tell him to. I'll probably try and schedule a vet visit next week if they don't start looking better, but wanted to make sure I'm armed with as much info as possible, as greyhounds aren't that common in my area and not sure how much experience the vets will have with this issue. Any ideas what might be causing this and what questions I should ask? If it is a grass allergy how long should I give the oatmeal shampoo regime to work before I cross it off the list? Or any suggestions for a miracle cure please, cause I'm honestly stumped. Attaching some photos that hopefully work. Thanks so much in advance And another photo for tax purposes
  2. Thanks so much for replying! It feels pretty smooth and soft, nothing hard that I can make out, so maybe it is just a rough patch. He's never had a nail on that toe since we adopted him, so could be that pad gets more pressure on it than the others and that's what's caused it. So hard to tell with these goobers whether something is wrong or not. My boy has the classic greyhound trait of dramatically screaming at a slight owie, then remaining in stoic silence through things that must really hurt! Defs going to keep an eye on it, and hope he'll actually let me know if it's bothering him Thanks again for your help
  3. Hi lovely folk! Didn't think this was worth starting a whole new thread so hope OP doesn't mind me hijacking theirs Just wondering if this is a corn? I just noticed it on my longboi's front paw. Doesn't seem to be giving him any pain or trouble, and it's very small, but want to get on top of it early if that's what it is! Thanks
  4. Thanks so much everybody! Yes, our 'shall we try and keep the dog off the couch' resolve lasted all of 24 hours Just couldn't resist the little speckled tummy rubs, haha. I am weak.
  5. Hi all! I've been lurking these forums for a few weeks now and wanted to make a post and introduce myself We adopted our dear Benjamin Button (aka Ben) (aka MooMoo our miniature Holstein cow) a little over 3 weeks ago. He's an almost four-year-old black and whiter who raced under the name of Sol's Buddy. Ben has settled in like an absolute champ from day one, he is the perfect gentlemen and has been so forgiving of DH and I's noob first time dog owner mistakes. We already can't imagine our life without him. This forum has already been an absolute goldmine of information, and I can't thank those who post enough for helping us get off on the right foot, providing sooo many helpful and handy tips, and just generally making us feel like we're not the only people in the world going through certain weird greyhound quirks (why does he lick the floor though, whyyy ) Things Ben likes very much: -morning and afternoon walksies -post dinner snuggles -afternoon naps in the back of mum's wagon -chasing flies -peanut butter and dried liver, preferably at the same time Things Ben doesn't like: -other big dogs (esp. the friendly, harmless neighbourhood labrador, grrrr ) -nasty ants -nasty grass seeds (major owie) -bath time And of course, pics!
