Hi y'all! Johnny is still having a little trouble with noise based anxiety (stupid lawnmowers!) and some separation anxiety (just some shaking when it's time for me to go to work), so I think a daily dose of L-theanine would help him out. I ordered the 100mg capsules of the enzymatic L-theanine, I think 1 a day should be sufficient? He was a little over 80 lbs at his checkup in September. Thanks!

Johnny shows signs of wear and tear from his racing days, but so far, so good at the age of 5. My Lab was a working dog til the age of 6, she had hip dysplasia, spinal arthritis, chronically bad ears, larangyeal paralysis, and incontinence and UTIs in her later years. My biggest expense has been my Siamese mix rescue cat. He's survived so many things, but he's so worth it.

Our local specialist clinic has a hyperbaric oxygen chamber for pets, would that be something to consider?

Johnny absolutely did not want to be crated at night from the get go. He was muzzled and baby-gated in the bedroom, since I have cats. Daytime crating lasted a couple of weeks more, then he refused to go in and ran back to the bedroom. I muzzled him until I was confident he would not bother the cats (and of course gave them escape routes). He has a comfy bed both in the bedroom and the living room. If he has to go, he'll start to pace and I'll hear him. We've only had one accident, he had some diarrhea at my parents' house, but that's been it. I'll second Cynthia up there, just wanted to share my experiences.

I know at CVS, when I first started filling for Cat #1, they had a bunch of those "save on prescription" cards, and I think they tried them till they worked. Now, it might be the rules have changed or it's a state regulation, who knows. Do you have a locally owned pharmacy (not a big chain)? They might work with you and even do compounding.

Johnny wears a tag collar all the time. His martingale has the "adopted from" tag as a backup, in case he slips his tag collar while outside (he only wears the martingale for walkies). You can get a tag clip for easier switching between collars--if you're like most of us, you have collars for every occasion!

I felt the same way when Johnny bit me--felt so dumb and angry at myself for thinking he'd behave like a Lab. I knew it wasn't his fault. He also doesn't like his feet to be messed with, I let other people trim his nails and give them the muzzle and the caveat. Better safe than sorry.
