  1. I think the real solution is YOU go sleep in the crate in the other room. It'll be quiet there!
  2. That is just too young. I'm so sorry.
  3. Raineysmom, I can do that. It's just a matter of remembering to take the good stuff upstairs. A brand new soccer ball would almost certainly do the trick! Ducky, totally possible and would make sense. BUT, we're talking about Brees here. Sense isn't often part of the equation! It's weird. She seems to want to go in. She stares at the opening for two or three minutes before finally giving up. When hubby stuffed her in last night, she was fine with it. Not at all like when I shove her in the bathroom for her semiannual bath. The brakes REALLY go on then.
  4. Sigh. Brees. I posted last week that Brees finally learned how to nose open a door, but I guess her brain was already full, because now she can't seem to remember how to walk into her open crate. She stands there, staring at it, then gives up and sleeps elsewhere. It's pitiful. Until last week, she loved her crate and put herself in it all the time. I changed out the bed after this started. Didn't help. Hubby thought she might be chilly, so we tried leaving the AC off. Nope. Last night, she stared at the crate for a bit (like she stares at the open car door before we give up and lift her in), so hubby stuffed her in. She turned around and laid right down, but was up and sleeping on the floor within 20 minutes. I do prefer her to sleep in the crate (door is open), because it keeps her outta Joe's way, but she doesn't *have* to crate. If this continues, I'll just get rid of it. But it's weird, and I don't understand. Gratuitous pic of Her Royal Idiocy, eating cracker jacks.
  5. I don't know anything about dogs and steroids, but when my husband has to take them for asthma, he becomes nearly impossible to live with! (Hubby is generally very laid back.) Your dog has a lot going on, and probably feels pretty yucky. That, with being very new to your home, and I'd bet a lot of what's going on is stress. You already know your DD needs to stay out the dog's space when he's laying down or eating. I bet she gets it now, too. As for the lab puppy, it's really not good that it can jump your fence. Can you zip tie some kind of barrier, like plastic lattice or one of those bamboo fence rolls, to the fence to make it a foot or two higher? Eta: also consider walks with lab puppy and its family so your dogs get used to each other and become more like a pack. If they're going to live next door to one another, they need to at least tolerate each other, or you'll go crazy.
  6. I stand there and let her watch, then we go back the next day, ad nauseam. Brees loves squirrels and I love Brees (shhhhh!). Walkies are for her amusement. It does get easier to get them away from squirrels. Joe once tried to climb a phone pole to get one, and Brees did a flip and landed on her spine another time. That was scary. Nothing exciting like that has happened in a good long while!
  7. Well, damn. That gorgeous dog should simply be waited on hand and foot!
  8. Silverfish, that video is incredible. Painful to watch, but incredible. So glad they were able to dig that nasty thing out of poor Sid!
  9. He's nervous. Keep him leashed to you, and wait the hour. Restlessness is normal. Panting is normal. Gas is normal (and very likely!) Do a good walk in an hour. Boy dogs mark in new places, inside and out. He's not eliminating all his pee so he is able to pee on every new thing he sees! Male greyhounds seem to have a bottomless tank.
  10. It sounds like you love Lester a lot. I'm glad you can see past the bite, and understand some of what went wrong. More knowledgeable folks than I are going to chime in with advice soon. From me, you just get hugs. Time4ANap is reading this now. Listen to what he'll say about his Rocket.
  11. You know what fixes an abrasion in the mouth? Ice cream, administered 3 times daily!
  12. On the upper half of the tail, top side, right? If so, it's probably stud tail (gland thing, as I understand), and you ignore it.
  13. I'd watch it. It's small. Manuka honey, maybe, but you probably don't even need it. (I've dealt with worse on Brees without the vet)
  14. UPS will be delivering you a very large box tomorrow. Brees will be inside. Enjoy!
  15. HIJACK ALERT!! Congratulations to both of you! I live across the river in "beautiful" Trenton, NJ, and have two NGAP hounds. I'd like to invite you to join us on our weekly houndwalk in Hamilton Township. We have between 5-10 people and assorted hounds each week, for a walk that lasts an hour-ish. Bug spray is suggested at this time of year! We do have a couple come up for Philly occasionally with their 3 hounds (two greys and a galga). If you'd like more information, please email me at Rachaeltpl AT yahoo DOT com.
  16. I chucked it. The fridge/freezer excavation process was terrifying.
