  1. I just picked up a pack for $1.78. Thought I'd freeze them for a couple days, then give the kids footsicles on a hot afternoon. Is there any reason NOT to? (size of bones, fatty skin, etc?). Since the time Brees got a steak bone wedged in her mouth, I'm a little nervous about trying new things.
  2. Yes. There is a chance. We've recently had 2 cases on GT that looked like osteo, but weren't. Spoil Henry anyway!
  3. I think if you're already planning to buy him coats and collars, you're toast! Good job, Benny!
  4. I found a Shih Tzu a couple months ago, and brought it home on a Thursday. Brees is a cat eater. The first night, she "tasted" the critter while I was holding him (trying to get in the house), so we kept them separated. She drooled at the door and frantically tried to get I with us. We introduced in small doses, keeping the muzzle on Brees, but letting her see and sniff him. By the time we found his people (Sunday?), they were totally fine with each other. I wouldn't have let them run loose together, but the little guy could play with a squeaky while Brees slept on the sofa. I never expected that Brees would be able to adjust to having a "bunny" in the house. Good luck!
  5. She's thin, but fine. Very well muscled. A fecal is a good idea, but beyond that, keep up with what the foster home was doing for at least a couple weeks before you decide to fatten her up. Let her adjust to you, and you to her. You're probably going to spoil her with treats anyway! (And, yes. She's wonderful and beautiful, and a very good girl for letting you pester her with the flashy box!)
  6. Wow! I so want a shiny dark brindle!
  7. I wish Jen were a little closer. Brees needs to work with someone who understands her. I sure don't!
  8. Just back from the vet. They all laughed! I eventually used a maxi pad and knee high; fabulous combo. Thank you! Brees is a little "off" this morning, but no fever. I gave her the ABs in a cheeseburger, so she's happy right now. Alicia, this is WHY I bought those collars. I'm sad, though, that she doesn't get to wear them until she heals. They're too pretty to get all bloody!
  9. Good ideas! Can't believe I didn't think about maxi pads or panty liners. She's calm and on her Daddy's lap. No fresh leakage right now. I don't have a cone. I really should have a cone!
  10. Brees did "it" again, and has a decent ear laceration. No parts missing that I see. After a good bath to clean her up and get rid of the cat piss stench, the thing is bleeding nicely. I have her in a snood of two tube sock shafts, layered. (this is after she quickly removed a single layer, and sprayed blood all over the living room). The blood has already soaked through, and I think she's going to take it off the second I fall asleep tonight. Other ideas? I gave her one of Joe's Xanax and 25mg of Tramadol. Vet tomorrow, I know. Rabies shot and antibiotics. This place looks like a crime scene.
  11. My Brees had a rear leg break when racing. She limps a little sometimes, but nothing major. The leg looks a little lumpy. We've had her aboutb3 years, and wouldn't trade her for the world! (If you tell hubby that, I'll deny it till the cows come home!)
  12. Very fine stink-eye Hester! I have nothing useful to say. Hope everything is ok.
  13. You got the "good" reaction to Tramadol. It makes some of them freak out. If he's calm in a crate, you can use that to keep him safe. Honestly, though, just giving him an extra pillow would probably be as good!
  14. Try giving a snack before bed so her tummy isn't totally empty for so long. A Pepcid can help if she's not feeling well. That said, mine usually don't bother to eat in the morning. When I first got Joe, I stressed out over it and tossed lots of extras into the morning meal to make him eat. He got porky. I quit doing that and he got himself down to a good weight on his own.
  15. Even if it isn't osteo, you are likely looking at seriously restricting activity. We had Joe on about 12 weeks leash walking, limited stairs & no running for an unknown soft tissue injury a few years ago. In our case, the x-rays ruled out osteo, but didn't give a real answer. Joe is still funky sometimes. I monitor him, medicate as needed, and hope to hell he doesn't blow out a knee when he plays with Brees. Get the x-rays. Go from there.
  16. I do Iams dry. We free feed. They eat what they want, when they want. Poop is decent, not perfect. Doesn't work for all dogs, and isn't what I'd advise right away for your guy. You got the dog yesterday. Poop happens! It'll work out. His tummy is probably a bit funky from the stress, but he wants to eat all the yummy wet food you give him. Don't worry if he misses a meal. Stick with what he got in the kennel, but maybe a little less. More walks. Don't stress. Stock up on washable bath mats for the crate until you work through this. Have a drink.
  17. Cindy, we were in the mid-70's here on Sunday, dappled shade with a cool down in a stream partway through the walk, and a friend's teenage hound did NOT do well. I think it was just too warm, too fast for him after the horrible winter. I hope it was that for Brady, as well!
