  1. Ducky, I'm so sorry Mikey had to leave. He doesn't have to endure thunderstorms any more. Run free Mikey. Carol and Joy
  2. As most of you know, I adopted a 2-year old girl, Joy, almost 3 weeks ago. Since Magic was a boy, I was wondering if there are any medical issues to look for in a girl dog. She's not a broodie and was spayed back in March.
  3. Any thoughts on counter surfing could help someone else with similar issues. I try to keep anything on the counter out of reach of Joy. Unfortunately, others don't seem to get it.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I spoke too soon earlier. Miss Joy decided to get on a higher counter last evening. I didn't witness it but my landlord said he spoke sternly to her. Apparently she was after her food which was found on the floor. It was put in the refrigerator so we'll see if she decides it's not worth it to jump on the counter. If I can get my other housemate to cooperate, I may try aluminum foil. I knew I was in for some new experiences with a 2-year old but I wouldn't trade any of Joy's mischievousness for anything. She has brought so much happiness into my life over the last couple of weeks.
  5. I guess the counter jumping was temporary. I've seen no indication that Joy has been up on the counter. I think her SA is easing as she starts to understand that when I go to work, I'm coming home too. The other evening she stole a piece of squash off that counter but that was the fault of the person who left it there. I freaked out because I didn't know squash is OK for dogs. I think a couple of people in the house can't see that there is a tall dog with a long neck and long nose living here.
  6. Tin, That was a beautiful tribute to a handsome fellow. Run free sweet Master Carol and Joy
  7. My new girl, Joy, is 2 years old and had only 19 races in 3 months. Is she too young to start a joint supplement?
  8. I'm sorry for your loss. Run free Cody.
  9. I'm also following this thread. I adopted my girl, Joy, last Sunday and she follows me around all the time. When I go into the bathroom, she sometimes will whine a little and then go into my room and lay on the bed. My big issue is when I go to work, church, etc.
  10. Joy has SA. When I leave for work or to go out, she gets really upset. She cries and jumps up on counters, blanket boxes, and anything else she can to look out the window for me. Yesterday, I went to Petsmart to get a couple of things and asked the manager where the Rescue Remedy was. This particular Petsmart doesn't carry it. The manager suggested a Thundershirt. My question is: How long before I leave should I put it on her? I went out yesterday without her and put it on right before I left. She whined and barked and jumped on to the blanket box. By the time I got home maybe 45 minutes later, she was calm and laying on my bed.
  11. My 2-year old little rascal, Joy, who I adopted just a few days ago, got on the counter with all 4 feet last evening. She did it when I was out and I saw her in the window when I got home. Unfortunately, when I walked in the house and into the kitchen, she jumped off before I could tell her "off". My question is does anyone have a suggestion for keeping her off the counter when no one is home. Obviously, if someone is home and in the kitchen, we can use "off". Right now, I've got a chair in front of the counter and I'm going to put at least one more in front of the counter. This counter is relatively low so I doubt she would be able to jump on the higher counters although I'm not sure about that. When she put her front feet on the counter, I said "no" in the VOG and she listened.
  12. I adopted Joy 2 days ago. I've been thinking that I would like to do therapy work with her. I know she has to receive her Canine Good Citizen first. How long should I wait before starting to work on the training. Joy is 2 so I'm guessing age won't be an issue to begin training.
  13. On April 15, 2015, I had to send my beloved 14-year-old Magic to the Bridge. I've been extremely lonely ever since. Late last summer when it was apparent to me that Magic's days were numbered, I put in an application for adoption. Much to my delight, Magic made it to his 14th birthday but in April, he decided that he was ready to leave me. Last week, my heart was ready for my heart healer and called the adoption group to let them know I was ready to adopt. On Sunday, I attended the group's spring picnic and met the available hounds. I walked one very pretty brindle girt who had the same birthday as Magic but she just wasn't the hound for me. My next choice was a pretty, red 2-year old girl. We walked and talked to her foster mom. When we went back to her crate, the other hound I wanted to walk was out being walked. I took that as a sign that Fuzzy's Joy Behar was going to be my heart healer. She was so funny. I was talking to her foster mom and Joy decided she wanted to take a nap so she sacked out on the ground. I just couldn't imagine a 2-year old being so quiet and calm. Without further ado, here's my heart healer, Fuzzy's Joy Behar, aka Joy. Joy has been a joy her first couple of days. She slept well on night one. She has learned the stairs, chased a squirrel, and played with my housemate's son's (visiting for a week or so) pitbull/beagle mix. She plays with balls and frisbees. Last night she showed her devilish side. She got up and started crying a bit. I thought she needed to go out and got up to take her out. As I was putting my bathrobe on, Miss Joy got up on the bed and laid down. Of course, she hogged the bed (a twin). I was able to squeeze in for the rest of the night.
  14. I'm sure Barb is having a greyt time at the Bridge with all the pets who are waiting for their people. She will be missed.
  15. Chris, I'm sorry Cashy had to leave you. I'll bet she and Libby are having a blast at the Bridge. Run Free sweet Cashy.
  16. Ducky, Could you add Laze's and Robin's Durango please. Thanks.
  17. Magic had it. He was never officially diagnosed but the vet suspected Lumbosacral Stenosis (LS). Good luck today.
  18. Clare, I'm sorry Doc had to leave you. I hope he and Magic are having fun at the Bridge. I'm sure Magic has introduced Doc to his friends from the Whirled Famous Unruly Boys Chat Club.
  19. I haven't received a sign from Magic yet, who passed the same day as Doc. I asked him to give me a sign. I have felt at peace since I left the vet that day. It's possible that was my sign. I can talk about him without tearing up.
  20. On August 13, 2005, 9.5 years ago, I went to the Doylestown, PA area to meet my cat-safe greyhound. I didn't know gender, age, color, etc. of the dog. When I arrived, I was greeted by 2 handsome brindle boys, Mohican and Magic. Yesterday morning, I helped Magic go to the Rainbow Bridge. In the last couple of years, he developed hind-end weakness. More recently, he developed fecal incontinence and had more trouble getting up and coming in the house. Yesterday morning, I discovered that he had a nosebleed through the night and decided he was ready to go to the Bridge. Magic and I have been so much together. Six months after he came to me, he was attacked by 2 pitbulls but survived. We've lived in a couple of places where I didn't feel we were safe. He had lyme disease a couple of years ago and an assortment of other minor injuries. I was laid off almost 2 years ago. He was patient with me through "Black Friday" and the 10 - 12 hour days this past tax season. Through all my frustrations, Magic was my rock. I'll miss my sweet brindle boy. Run free at the Bridge where you're happy and healthy. We'll see each other again.
  21. Lori, I'm sorry Sheana had to leave you. from Magic and me. Run free sweet Sheana. I hope you and Bill are having fun at the Bridge.
  22. Ducky, could you add Jagger, the Irish Setter who died after competing at Crufts? Could you add Boggs also? I don't know if his person is on Greytalk. Thanks.
