  1. That's cool. Every greyhound I've ever walked with spends more time sniffing than observing anything around them. With Rocket, his nose was to the ground for the entire walk.
  2. I haven't forgotten. Getting her to cooperate as a model brings out the broodie in her. We will get that photo eventually. She was practically asleep last night when we got the hat photos.
  3. Sid, These pictures of Rocket from his early days with us say that you are KNOT alone in your hoomiliation.
  4. I was taking a nap a little while ago. She came into the bedroom, and gave me an earful of her opinion about my napping in the afternoon. Definitely an Irish broodie. An since he's wearing green in the picture - here's a St. Patrick's shout out to one of Petunia's pups who is taking the greyhound racing world by storm lately - http://greyhound-data.com/d?i=2278973
  5. Paddy Mayhem.. Given the past year's arrivals of some of our wild boys at The Bridge, I have a feeling that The Bridge may ban St. Patrick's Day celebrations after this one.
  6. Greyhounds are used to being moved around so it may not be as traumatic as you think. Rocket had been with us about 5 years when we moved across the country. There was literally no issue. We had a great roadtrip, he stayed in hotels like a champ and settled right in once all of the furniture and his stuff was in the house..
  7. That's an awesome way to remember your boy.
  8. Mary Pat, Rocket was on the Rx Purina NF Kidney food, both kibble and canned. Every dog that stayed with us tried to get his kibble and some of them succeeded. They would scarf it down so I'm assuming they really liked it. Rocket loved both the kibble and canned. There was never a moment of hesitation from him when I switched to that food. Might be worth a try if you need a new kibble.
  9. When you do, add them to a Google Drive, DropBox or similar service so that you have access to them electronically in addition to any hard copies. I have been able to utilize Google Drive several times on vet consults, and it was used heavily when we consulted with Dr Cuoto on an issue where he wanted videos of Rocket walking on certain surfaces and taken from multiple directions.
  10. Sid! You handled that like an old pro! Great job, Sid!
  11. The Help Em Up harness allows you to customize the harness fit for male dogs with different pieces depending on how far forward the boy part sits. This is so that the harness doesn't interfere with urination and doesn't smash anything that shouldn't be smashed when the harness is picked up. I did find the harness to be kind of heavy, but it is also solid.
  12. Each dog has a binder where everything goes for storage. Anything important like an x-ray or test result that we are currently dealing with goes to my Google Drive so that I can pull it up on the phone if needed and share it or print it where needed. I need to clean up my Google Drive and get some of Rocket's documents off there to free up space.
  13. Most of the dogs we know here in Phoenix are shedding like crazy at the moment, including Petunia. This is pretty standard at this time of year. I can brush Petunia 4 times a day and have enough fur for another dog each time. Grizzly salmon oil is a little pricey but is really good. A little goes a long way, so don't add too much to each meal or you will tummy issues. It is really concentrated. It will do it's job over time if you follow the directions for adding it to food. Don't bathe them too often as that adds to the flaking.
  14. If your container is airtight (has a gasketed lid like most pet food containers) it should be fine. That's why I specified an airtight container in my response. If you are just using something like a Rubbermaid tub that isn't airtight, I would assume the food to be exposed to air and humidity and last way less time. This might be a good question to send to the customer service people at the food manufacturer since each one uses different criteria to determine that date. I would specifically ask them how long it should be good for once the package is opened. Being in Phoenix, I have had one or two bags that got a bad smell pretty fast after receiving them, and those were shipped in the summer heat. I'm guessing they sat in a really hot trailer for an extended period because you could tell that the smell wasn't normal on opening the bag, even though there was plenty of time left on the Use By Date. In both cases, the manufacturer replaced them without question, and in one case they asked me to send them a sample for testing.
  15. In an airtight container it should still be good until at least the date printed on the bag. The exception would be if it was exposed to air for a long period of time. Dampness or heat would also reduce shelf life, but room temp should be fine.
  16. Hi Robin, Of course we do. I remember following Elsie's journey when she came home to you. We lost Rocket last October and now have a 10 year old broodie named Petunia who is running the house.
  17. I;m very sorry for your loss. Love her heart shaped white face! Run-free, Negri.
  18. Petunia had her first visit with our vet yesterday. She is slightly anemic, and still positive for hookworm as her spay/dental appointment noted in December. . We've been using Panacur and getting some pretty nasty stuff out of her, but made the decision with the vet to switch to the Prison Protocol since her worm treatment was a little inconsistent in the past based on the few records we have while she was a foster. I want to get these beasts out of her ASAP. She does also have a cough after she drinks and occasionally while sleeping which the vet feels is related to the hooks as well. She is feeling much better after the Panacur, but she came from a farm in Alabama and was a broodie, so I feel like we should be doing the Prison Protocol for the best chance of getting rid of the hooks.
  19. Freeze Dried Liver ranks pretty high in this house too. This is the one we use - https://www.amazon.com/Stewart-Freeze-Dried-Treats-Liver/dp/B000255OIG
