  1. Yup - we know it's bad if she asks for a Comment Card at checkout time. I am also happy to report that Trolley and Petunia went for their first walk together this morning and they were awesome together. Trolley even hung out with her for a few minutes when we got back before returning to the guest room to continue holding court with the peasants.
  2. We weren't really looking yet (isn't that how it always happens?) but we had decided a while back that we will always give an older dog a home if we possibly can after the time we spent with Allie. We still miss that little old lady like she was here just yesterday. Petunia stopped by for a visit (which was a setup if there ever was one ) and we knew within an hour she wasn't leaving. Not yet on the fries. She needs some practice getting in and out of the car, so we are saving a french fry run for one of those practices. So far she's not super interested in human food except for cheese.
  3. Kristie, I am so sorry that Summit had to leave. Having lost our "first hound best boy" in October, I am still too familiar with the raw pain of that sudden decision you weren't expecting to make. I am sitting here trying to type though tears. It feels like Summit grew up with all of us here on GT much like Rocket did. I absolutely loved his pics and videos over the years. Summit was a favorite of everyone here and we will all miss him. Your video and written tributes to him were beautiful. Run-free Summit. Go find your GT friends at The Bridge, they'll show you around.
  4. Happy Birthday, Andy! What a great day, a walk, acupuncture and a laser treatment! Now you just need a cheeseburger and some fries!
  5. You nailed the problem. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. As others have said, sometimes early or late in the day you may be able to have the park to yourself. It really is sad as there is nothing more fun than seeing these hounds run and have a great time. Not sure where you are, but it may be time to make friends with someone who has a huge fenced yard or farm with a pasture, etc. When we lived in IL we were lucky that one of my friends had a huge fenced yard, probably close to an acre. Rocket loved going over there. Here in the desert a dog park would be our only other option, so that;s a no go for us as they are always full. Even though your dogs are a pair, you may still want to muzzle to avoid a nipping injury when you are able to let them run. Greyhound teeth plus thin skin can equal a nasty play injury.
  6. A new thread on the topic isn't an issue as everyone's circumstances are different. You are seeing basic pack behavior from a dog breed that has been used to hunt for hundreds of years. In their mind, they are playing. Greyhounds play rough with each other which is why muzzles are required at greyhound meetups and playgroups where dogs will be loose to play. Honestly, the dog park is best avoided in my opinion, but if you continue to go, find one with separate areas for small and large dogs. You don't want your dogs labeled or reported as being aggressive. It's not worth the headache.
  7. Paisley was doing what dogs do. If he doesn't get treatment for a bite (and from your description it sounds like a nip, so describe it as that if you need to) then you probably won't hear any more about it. If he does have it treated, then in most cases the medical facility will report the bite and you'll receive a visit from Animal Control. Rocket bit a friend who reached down to pet him while he was sleeping. She knew better, and just forgot that he would startle. She had to go to the doctor since it was a puncture to the hand, and the doctor, by law reported it to Animal Control. The AC Officer showed up a few days later, and since his shots were in order, restricted him to the house for 2 weeks. No leash walks, no trips outside the house anywhere. The alternative was that they could take him for 2 weeks and quarantine him. Once she heard what happened, she knew that he wasn't a threat and just ordered the home quarantine. I would be livid if this guy entered my apartment without knocking and announcing himself. He might even find himself held at gunpoint in my house if he wasn't expected to be there.
  8. Logan, you nailed that game! Great job! Not sure why your video didn't embed in the post. Normally just using the YouTube link like you did will make the video appear in the post. Might be a question for Jeff as to why it didn't happen.
  9. Because if we called it Trolley's Room she would lose her Platinum Status in our frequent guest program. You don't want to see her if she loses her perks and the Milk Bone on her pillow is missing at turndown.
  10. There are dry, non-lubricated condoms available in most drug stores. A friend of mine who does sound work for stage shows uses them to protect microphone transmitter units from shorting out due to the sweat under actor's costumes. I've also heard of people using them to protect electronics while camping or out in the weather while working events.
  11. If you have a farm supply store nearby, get a bale (or a couple bales) of horse bedding which is compressed wood shavings. Throw the bedding on top of the snow in a big enough area to give her a path to walk from the door and some area to do her business. I used to to cover Rocket;s turnout area in horse bedding when we lived in IL for this very reason. I always made sure to have enough to top it all off after it snowed or rained when the bedding got wet and froze again. It's cheap and couple bales of it go along way. You can also use a snow shovel to skim any new snow off of it and then top it off with some dry bedding to keep her area pretty dry. It also rakes up easily in the Spring and you can throw it on your compost pile.
  12. Petunia has turned out to be an awesome sleeper. She goes to bed whenever I head to the bedroom for the night - just follows me in. She curls up, falls asleep, and doesn't make a sound again until DW gets up at 6:30. The funny thing so far is that she goes outside at 6:30 to potty, and before DW can pick up behind her, she flies back into the house and is back in bed, sound asleep. She is KNOT a morning girl. We are going to get along just fine! So far, no worries about her playing with the toys during the night.
  13. I will second the suggestion of doing a 180 degree turn then circling back. It doesn't always work, but does work in many cases. Sometimes you may have to walk the other way a few steps to get him to follow and then do the quick turnaround. The key is to not hesitate at all and just keep moving. If he senses that you hesitate, it's his cue to stop. Petunia has only been here for 5 days now and this is day 4 of her learning our walking route. She has already started picking a spot to statue and from what I can tell it's because she wants to stand there in the sun. As long as we are on the sidewalk, I will let her rest a bit and just start moving again. Sometimes she follows, sometimes I have to do the 180 turn.
  14. There is nothing wrong with continuing to crate. It keeps the dog safe and gives you peace of mind regarding the dog being alone. When we gave Rocket the run of the house, we started leaving him out in small increments of time and worked up. We also left his crate in place with the door open. Make sure that the door can't be knocked closed by the dog, preventing them from having the crate available. We left that crate up for years and he would still go in there to sunbathe since it was next to a window with lots of sunbeams. Good luck!
  15. The Amazon man showed up this morning and he had a box for Petunia. I will be curious to see how much junk mail she gets now that her name is in Amazon's database. Hey Petunia - You have a delivery! It's from Lexie! Mom says I have a Sisser-in-law named Lexie. I don't know what a Sisser-in-law is, but I like her already. Hey - it's talking to me.... She's not so sure about this.... Something tells me she will learn to play with this at about 3AM.... Thank You Lexie!
  16. I know - I'm the only one who didn't get their nap today. Note username....
  17. Once a year or so, and usually only if their coat starts to get a little oily. We had a boy with the thickest fur I've ever seen on a greyhound. i took him to the groomer a few times for a bath only because she had one of those really powerful blow dryers that blew out the undercoat really well. Probably clogged the AC filters in her shop when we were done.
  18. Even more excitement.... Same activity - different location. Snickers working on her tan Miss Trolley on the move! Petunia plotting her next move to get one of these two to play.
  19. Thanks again, everyone. She is going to be something in a few weeks once she gets comfortable. Last night she decided to nest and sleep all night in my dirty laundry pile instead of the brand new Costco Bolster Bed we bought yesterday. Definitely channeling Rocket, as he would steal whatever clothes I took off at bedtime and nest in them. The broodie in her is starting to show too. Apparently she likes magazines and newspapers as well. What have we done?
  20. Invitation to play as others said. However, you should learn to "trade up" when taking something away from the dog. it takes a little training, but the door stop or any item has a value to the dog. You teach him to trade up for something more valuable like a milk bone or other treat. There is lots of info on the site and online if you search for info about trading up. Trying to just grab the item is a bad idea and could get someone bitten or snapped at. He also needs to be taught the "off" or "get down" command to be moved off the bed or furniture. Trying to move him physically may get someone bitten. Sounds like a great hound who just needs a little structure and training.
  21. The girls are all here this morning while their moms help setup the local GPA picnic. It's just the girls and Petunia's Daddyman having their own wild party this morning. Snickers Petunia Trolley driving the guest bed in the guest room - "You woke me up to take a picture? The nerve..." More wild times to come.....
  22. She has Dutch Bahama Eyes and what I'm assuming are a lot of features from HB's Commander. - here is her Data Page - http://greyhound-data.com/d?d=mw+neptunia&sex=&color=&birthyear=&birthland=
  23. Rocket did this all the time when he was sleeping. LMAO Sorry for the big Pic. Imgur isn't cooperating.
