  1. Here's a good article regarding this. http://www.drugs.com/article/drug-expiration-dates.html Most pharmacies automatically put the expiration date on the bottle as 1 year from the date filled. That is not necessarily what the expiration date was on the large bottle that they filled it from. Hopefully someone here can tell you if any of those have a shorter shelf life, but our vet will usually have me keep things on hand like Metronidazole since we end up using it quite often with Rocket. When I call with an issue, she will usually ask if i have X, Y, or Z on hand and then tell me to use it.
  2. What a handsome boy and a wonderful tribute to him. Run pain-free Freeman.
  3. Teens and low 20's is too cold to spend any amount of time without a coat. If it's just a quick "poop run," then i don't worry about it as much. If it's a walk and you're going to be more than 5 minutes or so at those temps, the coat would be needed.
  4. If the wiring is an issue, check out the Solar LED Floodlights at Lowes or Home Depot. No wiring required, motion activated, recharges in the sun, and may give her enough light depending on the size of the area you are trying to light up. I've seen some of these that people have installed on their garage locally, and was surprised at the brightness. I would stay away from the cheaper units at places like Harbor Freight, as they won't have the output. When you check the specs, be sure to look at the "Lumens". The higher the number, the brighter the light. Also check out the area it will cover. Most of them will have that info on the box.
  5. Given her weight, 4 cups of that food is probably overfeeding her, which will cause pudding poop. More food doesn't equal more weight. Follow the directions on the bag for her weight as to amount to feed. Also make sure you cut out ALL treats until the pudding is under control, then slow re-introduce them until you learn what she can and cannot tolerate. I would also only weigh her every 2 or 3 months unless you see her getting noticeably thinner. Weight will fluctuate, and you can't obsess about a couple pounds in the pup's first few weeks in a new home. That's just stress from a whole new world causing that. If you adjust the amount of food later, only do it in 1/8 to 1/4 cup increments every few weeks. At this point, you might want to fast her for a day and give the tummy a rest. You'll get dirty looks, but that's better than the runs! Green bag works for many, but not all. There is no one magic food, only the one that works for your hound, so it takes a little trial and error. As noted above, yogurt can help, but again does not work for all dogs. If we give Rocket yogurt or pumpkin as many will suggest, he gets pudding poops. Again, with add-ins, it's all a matter of finding what works for your hound. Good luck!
  6. You might want to stay in the room with him and make sure he doesn't further injure himself. i would gate or block him in the bedroom with you tonight. Don't need him wandering around while loopy. Can't help with the drug question, but hopefully one of the GT Vets or medical folks will be along shortly.
  7. It's hard to picture, but you might want to try cutting up a T-Shirt to go over his neck and cutting the shirt body into strips so that you can tie the shirt around him to secure the bandage. It will probably take some trial and error. If you sew, a little velcro might help as well. It is definitely a custom job. Hope your boy is better soon.
  8. We'll be thinking of you and your sweet girl Maya. Hope that all goes well.
  9. Unless they need some type of special diet for sensitive tummies, you can probably get away with adding some canned to make it stretch until Wednesday, or using add-ins like scrambled eggs, a little cottage cheese and other items noted in the above post. Since it's only a day, i wouldn't stress over it too much. In a pinch, just mixing with a similar type of kibble off the shelf would probably be fine also. We order our food also because the closest place that carries it is a 180 mile round trip. I've gotten in the habit of ordering the new bag as soon as I open the bag that goes into the storage container. That way, if it's backordered for a bit, i have a couple weeks of lead time to deal with it. In a pinch, we've used the IAMs Green Bag with no problems.
  10. It sounds like something neurological has happened. The "walking in a circle" may be an indicator of that. There are others here who have experienced similar issues and will be able to suggest some things to check. Give the responses a little time, as weekends can sometimes slow down a little here. I hope Lulu is better soon.
  11. He may look awake, but many greys sleep with their eyes open. Even if he was only zoned out and not sleeping, he was startled and felt threatened. Your pup had a perfectly natural reaction. We have a "no petting unless Rocket is standing up" rule in our house. He startles easily, and often his eyes are wide open when he's sleeping. If you implement this rule, you most likely won;t have any further issues like this. The bed is your hound's safe spot, so it's best that it's his domain.
  12. How did the scrambled eggs go over? If I so much as get an egg out of the refrigerator, I have an audience. I've also found green beans to be a big hit, although most of the other things you listed are pretty well liked in this house. Also, crumbs from treats (ground up Burpdogs, ginger snaps etc) sprinkled on top of the kibble you actually want them to eat is worth a try. if it tastes like cookies, it must be good!
  13. Have you checked the car trunk? (Had that happen 30 years ago and have never forgotten it.)
  14. Did you check his toes individually? He may have tweaked or dislocated a toe on the foot that he's limping on, especially since he was running in tight circles.
  15. Don't rule out the allergies. Seasonal allergies can be worse in the fall than at other times depending on what he might have an allergy to. Rocket has been itching since the ragweed bloomed in Late August / Early September. We go through this every year at this time until after the first heavy frost. We've had the best luck with Chlor-Trimeton (dispensed by vet but is the same as the OTC stuff) keeping the itch to a minimum. We also have to wipe and spray paws after every outing, and do eye drops.
