  1. Run free sweet Gracie Rose. You will be missed by many.
  2. Rocket knows that it means one or both of us has arrived at home. 5 years in, he still gets very happy and excited when he hears the garage door, and is waiting at the door with tail wagging to greet the arriving person. We also use the garage to enter and exit for walks, so that gives him another reason to be excited when he hears the door.
  3. We went right from the crate to run of the house. Never a problem in 5 years. The crate is still up, and even though we only use it if we have someone here like a plumber or the furnace guy, we will still find Rocket in there hanging out, catching sunbeams from time to time.
  4. The fleece coat may not be enough when the temps are cold. I would try some 2 legged or 4 legged pajamas. Rocket is a nester. When we put the PJ's on him, he sleeps through the night.
  5. Those big bouncy boys are fun! Handsome dude!
  6. Drama is how you know the injury isn't serious.....
  7. The drug that you named is not one I have seen mentioned here in regular use for greys. If it's a liquid, it gets rather poor reviews on a few websites where I found a product with a similar name. Bumping this back to the top hoping that one of the vets or vet techs on GT sees this and can advise if it's safe for greys.
  8. If this is a new hound from a group, chances are it has already had some de-worming done on arrival at the group. It would be better to find out from the group what treatments the hound has already had and finish or continue those as needed.. I've found that Panacur works great and helps to calm the tummy at the same time. The hound may have already had a dose of Panacur at the group and may just need the follow up dose that is usually give about 2-3 weeks later. (SafeGard is the retail package, Panacur is what it's labeled at the vet) I don't recognize that drug name from any of the treatments we've done, but someone with more vet or drug knowledge will most likely chime in here.
  9. Are you leaving a radio or TV on so there is some background noise? Even in the racing kennels greys are used to TV or radio playing. it also helps block "apartment noises" that might set her off. As noted above, you definitely need to do Alone Training if you haven't. Everything your hound is experiencing right now is brand new and different from everything they have known. It's a little scary for them. Riverhound is an enabler.....pay no attention..... (Hi Rachael.. ) Seriously though, often times a second hound really helps this issue, but not everyone is in a position to do that. You will get lots of good suggestions here, and there are pleny of people here who have gotten through this with a little time and training. .
  10. Might be best to grab a video for your vet if you can, when it happens.
  11. Rocket weighs about the same. usually 1 Gas-X does it, there's usually a loud belch within a few minutes. A second one isn't going to hurt. also, make sure to give regular Gas-X tablets, not the one with acid reducer or other types, just plain old Gas-X.
  12. If she wasn't concerned enough about her dog to even have a vet check him out, she isn't much of a dog owner. Personally, I'd tell her that if I hear her tell one more person that my dog is vicious, she can expect a letter from my attorney. But then, I don't like people much anyway.
  13. We were surprised at how well the pine shavings will mat down and hold after the fist rain or freeze. Initially, we find them in the house for a week or so because they are loose and haven't compacted down, but after that we have very little trouble with them being dragged in. I also found that the shavings spread easily and cover much more area than mulch because the bales are compressed. This is our 2nd year using the shavings.
  14. Late to the party here, but we had the same issue. Rocket could only tolerate all of the richer foods for a month or two before having major issues. We tried them all over time. The best we have found for him are Precise Foundation Chicken Meal and Rice, and Precise Senior. He just turned 8, and we were seeing occasional soft poops on Foundation after several years on it. The Senior blend seemed to do the trick. For really sensitive tummies, their Lamb based Sensicare formula works well for some others that we know. It can be hard to find a Precise dealer in some areas, so order it from Wag or Petflow depending who has the best price.
