Do a search here on Hog Fuel. You may need to put it in quotes for the search function to find it. Some GT'ers have reported success with this type of mulch because it is finer and softer. It also has less splinters than other mulches. We have a 12x26 fenced area that is used only for a potty area - no play or running. in the winter, the grass gets muddy due to freezing and thawing of snow. Last year i covered the area in horse stall bedding (wood shavings). it worked well, and the mud was eliminated. The shavings are soft and can be raked if necessary. They are also cheaper than mulch. A couple of compressed bales go a long way. This is 4-6 inches of shavings covering the mud in our turnout yard last spring. The area in the foreground is actually dormant grass and not mud. Over time, I ended up covering the whole yard and will do so again at the start of next Winter. This took about 5 bales.

I would borrow one if you can to have on hand for a while. The hound is used to a crate and hasn't had any time to adjust or learn a different routine. If you can't borrow one, check Craigslist - usually about half the normal retail price.

Late yesterday I learned that Rocket's sister and only known litter mate went to the bridge after a rapid onset of Osteo symptoms. Tests confirmed that the Osteo was particularly aggressive, and treatment options would not have provided the pain relief or quality of life that we want our hounds to have. Katie Scarlett was still racing when we adopted Rocket, and we followed her until retirement. When she became available, we applied to Greyhounds Only to adopt her. After several weeks in a row of having to cancel the trip due to ice and snow storms that made a 4 hour drive impossible, we reluctantly withdrew the application so that she could get into a home without waiting any longer. GO was fantastic and gave our contact info to her new Mom, Heather. Heather is not on GT, and gave me permission to post this. Heather has lost multiple hounds to this horrid disease over the years. Please keep her in your thoughts. We have been in touch sharing pictures and info about Rocket and Katie since Heather adopted her. Sadly, getting the hounds together to see each other again was one of those things we were always going to get around to, and never did. I will always regret that I didn't make that happen. Rocket and Katie look so much alike and had many similar traits. We are devastated that she had to leave so soon. Run pain-free at the bridge sweet girl. We love you. Sometimes loose poop means you are overfeeding (not always) . With any new food, make sure you are following the amounts to be fed based on the dog's weight that is noted on the package. It's real easy to change food and continue to to feed 2 cups "because that's what he always eats..." You may need less of a richer or higher calorie food. I found that things like pumpkin, yogurt etc always make it worse. Those just don't work for Rocket. I would try cutting back by 1/4 cup at a time with a week or so between adjustments to that amount and see if it gets better. He could just need an adjustment to the amount of food, not necessarily add-ins or a different food.
