  1. To get "technical," is this that she needs 4 or 5 outings a day, or that she has 2 or 3 outings but fills that many bags? If she needs that many outings, then a food switch or even a fecal sample might be warranted to rule out an parasites or worms. if it's just that you use that many bags over a few outings, that seems pretty normal Rocket typically goes out on 2 walks a day, plus a morning turnout if he doesn't run back to bed after breakfast. It's not unusual for us to use 4-6 bags on those outings, but the amounts aren't huge unless he's had some type of snack that doesn't agree. We have recently switched him to Precise Senior Formula from Precise Foundation, and found that stools are firmer all day, and the output is smaller. He will be 8 in November and it seemed like he needed a diet change. Many of the owners from our adoption group have had great results from the foods in the Precise line, Primarily their Foundation Chicken Meal and Rice formula. They have lots of other types though if chicken isn't an option.
  2. Little tiny specs can also just be undigested supplements from kibble, like specs of glucosamine. A fecal test is the best way to determine what you are dealing with. Worms that small usually aren't visible to the naked eye and need to be looked at under a microscope. That being said, I have never had a positive fecal test on Rocket, even though Panacur cleared up whatever was bothering his tummy. You can buy Panacur and other dewormers over the counter and online. Prices at retail in our area are just a little bit higher than vet prices, but our vet is further away than the farm supply where I buy the meds. If you buy OTC dewormers, use only those that are the correct strength and dose for your dog. Do not use the products for Livestock, as they are much stronger and can be fatal to dogs and cats if not dosed and administered correctly. OTC Panacur is marketed as Intervet Safeguard and is produced and packaged on the same pharmaceutical manufacturing line as the Panacur you get at the vet. You need to make sure you buy the correct amount and strength based on the hound's weight. There are some worms that Panacur will not be effective on, but there have been a few times that I suspected worms due to tummy issues and the foul smell of the stool, and a dose of Panacur took care of the issue. If you are seeing bigger worms in the stool or have one waving at you like I did one night using the flashlight, then you may need a Drontal Plus treatment which you will need to get at the vet. Either way, most vets will do a stool check and prescribe a dewormer without an appointment if you are a regular client. Here, the fecal test runs about 20 bucks, and the dewormer 35 (Panacur) to 65 (Drontal Plus) dollars depending on the med used. Again, this price will vary based on the weight of the dog and dosage of the med. Good luck
  3. We have used it in the past and it does help. In our case, we tried saving some money by buying ours through Costco, but the results were dismal compared to when we used Grizzly Salmon Oil (Grizzly is the brand). We went back to Grizzly after using a small portion of the stuff from Costco. A little goes a long way. We only gave it once a day, and in a smaller portion than directed. When we used the full amount as directed on the bottle, it was too rich for Rocket's stomach to handle and caused loose stools.
  4. Check the instructions on the Fromm's if you haven't. The amount to be fed could be different than what you fed before depending on the calorie count and other nutrition info. They could just need an adjustment in the amount, even if it's what you consider to be their "normal" amount of food. You could also try spreading it out a little. We hold part of Rocket's breakfast kibble and put it in his Kong Wobbler at lunch time. It gives him something to do, even though he has engineered a way to use the dog bed to empty the thing in less than a minute, and it gives him a snack without putting extra food in him.
  5. With him being lethargic i would be worried about dehydration. Have you pulled up on his skin to see if it bounces back. Back of the neck or just below the neck along the spine is the best place to check.) I've had Rocket be that sick from tummy issues and Big D, and he needed IV fluids under the skin to re-hydrate him.
  6. EBay has some dog treadmills listed. That will give you some brand names and specs to research as a start. Rocket says he's pretty sure this is a violation of the "dopshun kontrakt."
  7. Joe is another of those hounds who has just always been here. We never got to meet him, but we will miss him. Run free Joe.
  8. Scrambled eggs also work in a pinch - never saw any dog turn down eggs. As posted above, cooked ground beef with some rice or pasta, or add scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, canned green beans, etc if you have it. Add-ins are like huge treats and the hounds will think it's great. If your schedule is hectic, look at wag.com or petflow.com for automated delivery of the food. Both do an outstanding job. i also keep some canned food on hand for tummy issues, and can feed that if one of my shipments doesn't make it on time. Don't beat yourself up, just keep a little reserve supply on hand in case you run out again or in the event there's an emergency that prevents you from getting out to get food for a day or two.

  10. Handsome Debbil seems to fit well. Run Free Graham.
  11. Congratulations. Wait til Teddi clues him on on the things he can get away with. Did you end up in Illinois? If so, let us know anytime you need a pit stop coming through the Champaign area.
  12. Handsome Dude!!!! Welcome.
  13. He has probably never been alone before. Even if fostered, there were probably other hounds. It is a gradual process as others have said. His whole life just became new again, and with training and time, you will have a great friend there.
  14. Muzzles on both during play. All play supervised.
  15. Sending fuzzy lots of good thoughts. Hope he is feeling better soon. We just had to do a 3 week course of metronidazole for Rocket, and he ate lots of scrambled eggs and overcooked rice along with a little canned. it took a couple weeks before he could tolerate kibble again. This seems to happen with him a couple times a year, so I know how frustrating what you are going through is. As far as the WD - we actually have better luck with Evanger's canned organic chicken. Nothing in it but organic chicken and water. it;s as bland as bland gets.
  16. Glad I'm not the only one who types one word in place of the other. I do it all the time, so I really have to read everything I post. It's getting worse as I get older.
  17. You meant an urban environment, right?
  18. Search for "tracking collars" (without the quotes) using the search function here on GT. (GPS is too short for the search engine) There are several threads from late last year and earlier this year that will give you some good info about some of the collars on the market. Some people here are using them, but those threads had some good info to check out while you wait for more replies.

    Corbyn

    Run free Corbyn and Aleister.
  20. Most likely needs a vet visit. Could be a tumor as others have said, or something like an insect / spider bite. Either way I would have it checked ASAP, especially since it appeared overnight.
