  1. We're using the Seresto collars. https://www.chewy.com/seresto-8-month-flea-tick-collar/dp/46498
  2. We can always lend you one of ours as long as you promise to return them.
  3. We'll be there Friday to Sunday - staying at the Quality Inn.
  4. Thank you for the update and pictures. I'm so happy this girl has a second chance at retirement in a comfy home. I hope she continues to do well.
  5. I'm very sorry for your losses. I'm not sure what happened, but if it is what I assume, I understand. Our greyhound Bonny was killed by her greyhound sister of many years, Darcy. It was one of the worst days of our lives. Darcy passed about six months later. Be kind to yourself.
  6. Thinking of you, Ty and Tangy. These dogs leave their paw prints on our hearts.
  7. Our adoption group asked us to rank activity level from 1 (low) to 5 (high) on the application. We requested a 1. Celeste was only 2.5 y/o when we adopted her, but she was so lazy that they'd joke that she was a 0.5 activity level. Only one of our 4 greyhounds, Darcy, enjoyed running - and she was almost 6 y/o when we adopted her!
  8. Our greyhounds have all quite enjoyed being retired. We do have a monthly greyhound playgroup at an indoor equestrian arena. Two of our greyhounds enjoyed a quick sprint. One would just trot a few feet and stop. She is also the one that taught the others the joys of laying on couches.
  9. I'm so sorry you're facing this. I lost my heart hound, Faye Oops, to osteo in 2011. We got the diagnosis in mid-October and let her go on December 1. We we're having family visit for Thanksgiving. We had the appointment set to say goodbye before they arrived thinking a house full of people would be too stressful for her. Darn if that dog didn't rally and have some her best days yet. She really seemed to enjoy the full house and attention, but went downhill fast as soon as they left. Faye Oops was still using all four legs though and able to navigate stairs with only minor assistance (osteo was in her shoulder). I'd be concerned that your pup isn't doing either. It sucks, it really does, but I'd tend to want to err on a day too early than too late.
  10. Handsome Murray. Gone, but never forgotten.
  11. We canceled Christmas last year. We lost two of our pack in 2015 - Bonny in May and Darcy in December. Plus, my horse and I flipped over a jump and I broke my arm right before Thanksgiving. I had ZERO Christmas spirit and couldn't bring myself to fake it. I hope that 2017 is better for you.
  12. Good question. No, not really. Encarna is pretty good about holding it until our regular walks. She has had accidents in the house before - other than on our bed - and doesn't give any warning (or, most likely, the signs are so subtle that we miss them). On our walk this morning, it took her two blocks to go pee. This is par for the course on walks. We'll get her tested for a UTI, but I would think that she'd need to go immediately as soon as she goes outside if she had one.
  13. FYI, Encarna's last walk of the night was about an 1 to 1.5 hours before this happened. She peed on that walk too. This is the third incidence of her peeing in our bed over a two month span, but the first time she was caught in the act. I no longer suspect urinary incontinence since I saw her squatting and peeing.
  14. Well, I'd like to think that Encarna likes us. She has to be touching one of us at all times whenever we are home. I'll have her checked for a UTI. I was thinking it was some behavior issue since the incidents have been few and far between, but it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong.
  15. That's what we thought too, but our two greyhounds with that issue would just leak in their sleep. I caught Encarna in the act of squatting and peeing on the bed last night.
  16. We adopted our 5 y/o galgo Encarna in late-July. She had been in a foster home for a few months, so we were hoping to not deal with all the same housebreaking issues we had with galgo Beatrix. Encarna is a super Velcro dog - always snuggled up next to us on the couch and likes to sleep in bed with us. In October, while I was away on work travel, DH went to bed and found that it had been peed on. Thank goodness for waterproof mattress covers! We had another incident a couple of weeks later. Since we never had an issue with our two other dogs, we figured it must have been Encarna. We even wondered if she had urinary incontinence (two of our previous greyhounds were on Proin). We kept waiting to see if there was another incident, but there were none. Fast forward to last night... Encarna is snuggled in bed with me. DH was downstairs watching TV. I'm woken up at midnight by Encarna squatting and peeing in bed mere inches from my face. EWWW. We stripped the bed - thank goodness for waterproof mattress pads (again!) and having a spare! I walked her in my cheetah PJs, but she had already emptied her bladder. Encarna isn't drinking or peeing any more than usual. So, I'm thinking this is likely a behavior issue and not medical. She is due to go to the vet, so we'll mention it to her anyway. In the meantime, any advice? Why would a dog that loves to share our bed pee in it?
  17. I thought of your girl today when I heard of Carrie Fisher's passing. I guess Princess Leia needed a guardian over the Rainbow Bridge.
  18. Congratulations! Manny is one handsome boy.
  19. I'm sorry that the vet wasn't able to give you any answers. I'm glad Brin is home and hoping she'll start eating soon.
  20. I have no advice beyond what you already tried. I do agree that we're spoiled with the retired racers. We definitely had more challenges with housebreaking galgos Beatrix and Encarna. We got Beatrix right from the airport. It took months to fully house train Beatrix. Encarna was fostered first, but will still have accidents on occasion - although I was thrilled this week when she peed on a pee pad in front of me. Of course, it would have been better if she indicated that she needed to potty so I could take her out - but a pee pad beats peeing on the carpet. Wishing you luck!
  21. Oh Ron, I'm so sorry to see Princess Leia's name here. I will always remember her winning the Animal Planet contest and the fact that she is a half-sister to our Celeste. Please don't blame yourselves. Leia had a long life filled with love.
  22. Our 13.5 y/o Celeste has been on daily liquid Metacalm for about 1.5 years now. Zero issues and definitely seems to help with her arthritis.
  23. Beautiful tribute, Lauren. So many of us followed along on Fenway's journey. He will be missed.
  24. Ducky, my condolences to you and Percy's pack. What a lucky boy to have such a loving home in his final years.
  25. YAY for no extractions! Hoping for a smooth recovery.
