  1. I recently got VPI for our two grey girls. I got the Superior Plan for both. I got the routine care on Darcy's policy only (Celeste just got all her shots and doesn't need a dental). I opted not to get the additional cancer rider. I never had pet insurance before. However, I did get insurance for my horse. My equine insurance policy has been a godsend and well worth the $500 annual premium. My mare tore a ligament last fall and I've already been reimbursed for about $2,000 in vet bills.
  2. I posted a poll about this recently - check out the responses (clicky). I'm in the process of getting the VPI Superior Plan for our two grey girls. I decided to add the routine care to one plan, but not the other (she just had all her shots and doesn't need a dental). I didn't add the cancer endorsement on either plan.
  3. Welcome! BTW... LOVE the name Casey. I had a rabbit and two cats named Casey growing up.
  4. Please keep us posted after you pick up your new pups. I know how hard the waiting can be! I'm glad you were able to get the "Retired Racers for Dummies" book - that book and the one by Cynthia Branigan were invaluable to us when we got our first grey this past April. Once again... congratulations!
  5. Welcome from VA. You have two beautiful greys - enjoy!
  6. You can get an online quote on their website - http://www.petinsurance.com/
  7. Now that the holidays are over, I'm finally getting around to purchasing an insurance policy for our two greys. Celeste is 3 y/o. Darcy will turn 6 y/o next month. Most people recommended VPI, but didn't mention the specific plan they have. Thanks!
  8. Welcome home Annie! She's a cutie - we have a 3 y/o dark brindle girly too, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to dark brindles.
  9. Congratulations! She is a beautiful girl. Our first - adopted this past April - is a 3 y/o brindle girly too.
  10. I was 33 y/o and hubby was 35 y/o when we adopted our first greyhound this past April. We've been married and owned our own home for 10 years. I guess we weren't up to responsibility of dog ownership until now.
  11. I read on another post that you are in Fredericksburg. Here are listings of other greyhound adoption groups in the area: GPA-Richmond (website) GPA-NoVA (website) Greyhound Welfare (website) Greyhound Rescue (website) Virginia Greyhound Adoption (website) Without knowing you or your home situation, I cannot guarantee you'll have success with another group. However, different groups do have different requirements. Like others have said, I would contact the group that turned you down for more information. Good luck!
  12. Congrats on getting your first grey. Be careful though... they are highly addictive. Hubby and I adopted our first grey in April 22 and are scheduled to get our second on December 9.
  13. My dog-sitter has several cactus plants. I was nervous about them when I first left Celeste there, but Celeste was fine. My dog-sitter has two greyhounds of her own and never had a problem with them getting poked by them either. As for the time alone... Celeste is left home alone for about 8-9 hours and does fine. Hubby did come home to walk her at lunch for the first couple of months, but he pretty much had to drag her outside.
  14. So deeply sorry for your loss... It sounds like he had a wonderful, long life right up until the very end. I'm sure he's munching grass and frolicking over the rainbow bridge. Take care.
