  1. I'm so sorry you're facing this (again!) Robin. My thoughts are with you and Zander.
  2. None of our four pack are big breakfast eaters. They all line up and demand dinner each night though. So, we give them only a small amount of kibble in the morning and save the rest for a big meal at dinner.
  3. Welcome! I'm north of you in Centreville, VA. We've had 4 greyhounds - 2 came to us sight unseen from the track and the other 2 were failed fosters that had been bounced by their previous home. We've never had an issue. Greyhounds are generally easy even when not fostered first. All of our greyhounds came through GPA-NoVA. We also have a galgo - hunting dog from Spain. She went from the shelter to an airplane and we picked her up at JFK. There is a monthly greyhound playgroup at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, VA, but that would be a bit far for you. Best of luck and keep us posted!
  4. I learn something new everyday! This thread does remind me a bit of Silence of the Lambs. Brave Clarice. You will let me know when those lambs stop screaming, won't you? Sorry, just had to say it.
  5. Yep, we've been feeding the BJs brand all natural chicken & brown rice kibble to our pack for years. They do great on it! BJs brand is Berkley & Jensen
  6. I'm so sorry to read about this turn of events. Hoping all is well with Violet.
  7. No, I doubt they do dentals prior to adoption in Spain. Our vet did see Beatrix shortly after we adopted her and didn't recommend a dental - said she had nice teeth. The tooth broke about a month later. We got Beatrix the antler as an alternative to her chewing up my books and magazines. Now she is back to destroying my People magazines. It just forces me to read them quicker.
  8. Two of our hounds have been on 50mg of Proin daily for years. We haven't head any issues. However, they're not on any other drugs. Perhaps she is having an adverse reaction by mixing with the Incurin? I suggest you contact your vet if you haven't already.
  9. Our galgo Beatrix broke a tooth chewing on an elk antler. Considering that galgos generally have better teeth than retired racers, we won't be giving any of our greyhounds antlers.
  10. Our Faye Oops was *very* attached to Celeste. She would get nervous by herself. We just wound up taking Celeste everywhere that Faye Oops went, including the vets office. Lucky for us, Celeste loved going to the vet and they loved having her around. Celeste was even with us when Faye Oops crossed the bridge. She was a huge help to all of us. There may be occasions where you may need to separate the two. I'm just not sure what the best course of action is!
  11. Hummm... I'm not sure. Vet practice has a lab, but sent out the blood work. Bonny has been tested before at the same vet practice and this is her first positive.
  12. Our 13 y/o Bonny recently tested positive for ehrlichia. We're going to begin treatment when we return from Thanksgiving with minocycline (I believe). Anyone have experiences they want to share? Thanks!
  13. Why not try letting Rudy stay out of the crate? We kenneled our first greyhound for a few months. Then, one day, she ran upstairs and refused to go in the crate. She has never been in a crate since. No problems. Our second greyhound lasted 2 days in the crate. No problems. Our third and fourth greyhounds were bounces, so we never even tried crating them. No problems. I think Rudy is just letting you know that he is more comfortable staying in the bedroom. Try it.
  14. Osteo is a terminal disease. That is the reality you're facing. Many of us, including myself, have walked this path before. If your dog is showing ANY signs of discomfort, increase the meds. We were able to keep my heart hound, Faye Oops, comfortable for about six weeks after she was diagnosed. We did a couple of medication increases, but the first night she was unable to sleep comfortably was her final. I'm so sorry to you and everyone else who has ever faced this monster.
  15. My condolences on the lost of your beautiful, perfect girl. So many of us know the heartbreak of osteo and have felt the pain you're experiencing.
  16. Oh, I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful Maddie. I remember you were our Secret Santa one year. RIP sweet girl.
  17. No idea. Our hounds were all spayed/neutered by GPA-Wheeling which provides our GPA chapter with hounds.
  18. I'm pretty certain Celeste thinks her name is "Cookie" because it is the only word she'll actually move for. Our girls all seem to know "Walk," "Outside," "Go to bed," "Go lay down," and "Leave it." For Celeste, just add "Cookie" to any of them if you expect action.
  19. Oh, how horrible and sad. I concur with the others that something was not right with Flyer. One of my friends had to euthanize her horse a few years ago. He suddenly started becoming aggressive with other horses. He was a ticking time bomb. Turns out he had a brain tumor.
  20. I'm so sorry. Osteo has taken the lives of so many of our beloved hounds. Enjoy the time you have left with your beautiful Annie.
  21. Poor Xavi. So glad he is getting good care since you're not able to be there. That must be a huge relief!
