You've already gotten good advice. I would like to present you with the worst case scenario... our greyhound Bonny was killed by our greyhound Darcy. These two had been living together for over 8 years. Darcy always had space and food aggression. She always gave warning and the other dogs/cats were respectful of her space. Unfortunately, as they aged, their senses were no longer the same. Bonny was 13.5 y/o and had signs of cognitive dysfunction. Darcy was 14.5 y/o and was going blind. It only took one bite to the jugular over a dog bed. After that, we kept our remaining dogs completely separate in different parts of the house when we were not home. Darcy was also fed in a separate room. Re-homing her at 14.5 y/o was simply not an option. Darcy passed at 14 years 10 months due to a tumor. For the safety of your existing pack, I would seriously consider working with your adoption group to re-home Nora. I wouldn't consider anyone a failure for recognizing that it's not a good mix.

We're currently on our sixth dog (4 greyhounds, 2 galgos). We've never had any issues with kibble. I'm sure many on this thread want to hit me right now. Our current pack is fed a mixture of BJ's Wholesale brand all natural chicken & brown rice and Taste of the Wild salmon (Newest galgo was on that brand. We mixed it to transition her, but all the dogs like it.).

I'm so sorry for the loss of your boy. It's never easy, but know that Shadow is in good company over the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm sorry, but it sounds like you're making the right choice for your hound. There are people that have greyhounds in NYC and they do well. It sounds like yours would rather live in the suburbs. Thank you for putting your dogs needs first. I hope you'll consider trying again.

Who else has an exhibitionist hound? Our now 13 y/o Celeste loves to potty in front of an audience. During our walks, she'll always choose the house with a person working outside, an open door or in front of a car. Yesterday was my first time walking all three dogs together - Celeste, galgo Beatrix and new galgo Encarna. A neighbor had their little yappy white dog tied outside while she was gardening. What house does Celeste decide to take a dump in front of? UGH. Thankfully, Encarna is small dog safe.

I'm so very sad for you, Jan and Dave. We lost Bonny unexpectedly in May of last year, followed months later by Darcy in December. I know all to well the pain you are experiencing.

Glad all is well with Dino. In addition to being lumpy, Celeste has seasonal allergies that result in a hacking cough. She'll be 13 y/o soon and doing well otherwise.

Celeste is full of lumps. We've had the bigger ones aspirated and they're just fatty deposits. Hope it's nothing.

I'm so sorry, Jen. It sucks. True. Our vet initially thought Bonny had a huge spleen, but it was normal for a large greyhound. Never caused her any issues. You deserve at least some good news.

We put out pee pads. Our greyhounds - and galgo - have all been pretty good about using them if unable to hold it all day.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I haven't read all the responses. I just couldn't. My heart hound, Faye Oops, was the first dog we had PTS (osteo). Faye Oops always got very stressed at the vet's office, so we always brought Celeste with us to appointments. We did the same when it was her time to leave us. The sedative did nothing. Faye Oops was still stressed. Thankfully, Celeste was there and put her head on Faye Oops to calm her. It worked. I will be forever grateful for Celeste that day. She even had the staff crying. We recently had to PTS my heart cat, Monty. He was the first animal that I've had to have the reflexes after it was done. It was very unsettling.

I also agree that time cures most issues. Our cats were 7, 9 and 11 when we adopted our first greyhound. None had lived with dogs before. We, too, created a cat safe zone in our finished basement. I think it took about three months before the cats decided to come hang out with the rest of the family in our family room and bedroom.

TRUTH! Our Beatrix is sneaky. We had to put a baby lock on our kitchen trash can.

Congratulations! We adopted our galgo, Beatrix, in October 2013. She was 7 y/o when she came over from Spain (FBM). Beatrix gets along well with our greyhounds, but is definitely more of a "dog" if that makes any sense. We adore her!

Greyhound or not, you're never allowed to leave the greyhound cult. Cody was a lovely girl. Thank you for sharing pictures of her.
