  1. I’m so sorry, Ducky. We lost our Celeste to something similar and sudden. Potato was a beautiful girl and lucky to have you these past couple of years.
  2. Unfortunately not. Dogs are allowed at the participating wineries and at the Taughannock Falls. Dogs are left at the cabin for all else. After a few hours touring wineries, our hounds usually appreciate a break. If you don't want to leave your dog alone, they usually offer babysitting services at the host winery in the Grapehounds tent. Woo-Hoo!!! You also got to experience the archaic reservation system at the Lodge. There are plenty of other places to stay, but the Lodge is close to the wineries, cheap and has a good restaurant/bar onsite.
  3. I was hoping Julie, er Tricia would chime in. But yes, so many wineries that you can’t possibly cover in a weekend. The rest is for when you need a break from drinking.
  4. 'Tis the season to book reservations at Seneca Lodge in Watkins Glen for Grapehounds 2018. After marathon phone calls (Seneca Lodge doesn't do online reservations), I know several of us got cabins. We'll be in our usual Cabin 85. Arriving Monday, July 23 and leaving Monday, July 30. I'll let those of you on GreyTalk respond with your cabins. I know a couple of folks not on GreyTalk and will share theirs. Brian, Kevin and David... Cabin 80 Craig and Caroline... Cabin 84
  5. So many names, including our Beatrix and Celeste.
  6. The GIG schedule seems to correspond well with the extended vending hours. As a seasoned GIG attendee, I'm not likely to shop as much, but that was my primary motivation in attending when I was a new owner.
  7. How will this impact the Saturday night gathering which is typically held in the Expo Center? We're about 1.5 hours from Gettysburg, but come Friday and leave Sunday. We have plenty of time to get our shopping in on Friday/Saturday. I can see the value for day trippers, but even when I was one, I wanted to get there early to get the best selection.
  8. I'm sorry. I don't have any medication suggestions, but if you have other dogs in the house, please use caution. We suspect our Bonny had canine dementia. She no longer respected the boundaries of her space aggressive sister Darcy. Darcy was also at an advanced age, with minimal eyesight. Our story had a tragic ending.
  9. I’m so sorry to see Joe’s name here. My condolences to you and Rob. He was a very special boy. We missed you guys at Grapehounds this year, sitting on the party deck with Joe and Brees.
  10. Irene, I wasn't questioning your sincerity at all. I know *exactly* what you went through with hemangiosarcoma and how quickly things happen. We didn't do a necropsy either. Our vet showed us the ultrasound and was the one that advised us it was best to let her go. Its heartbreaking to bring a dog into the vet hoping to make them better and leave without them. We lost our galgo Beatrix six weeks before Celeste to osteosarcoma. We were better prepared for that.
  11. Same here. We took our Celeste in for bloodwork, followed by an ultrasound. She had been doing great just a few days before. We had to let her go the same day. It was very sudden. I'm so sorry for your loss.
  12. Great update! I'm glad that you gave greyhounds another chance.
  13. Welcome Galina! Did she come over with Charlotte during her recent trip to Canada? Her coloring reminds me a lot of our Beatrix. Beatrix's fur had a course texture, but she wasn't fuzzy. Our 112 Carlotta Galgo, Rhythm, says Hola!
  14. I promise I won't think you're a stalker either. Looking forward to seeing everyone and maybe some new folks we haven't met yet. We're regulars at GIG and Grapehounds, but this is a new event for us.
  15. We will be there with galgos Encarna and Rhythm. We've been in the greyhound cult for 11+ years, but this will be our first ever Dewey. We're coming up Thursday and leaving Monday, staying at the Beach House in Dewey. I have no clue about anything. However, you can find us with Camp Cocktail. We're cofounders of the original at Grapehounds.
  16. I'm glad you haven't written off greyhounds completely. As someone else already said, be open minded and don't compare her to Ace. We've had four greyhounds and three galgos - haven't had any of the issues you had with Ace. Good luck!
  17. The Grapehounds organizers won't include any establishment that isn't dog friendly. If dogs are only allowed in certain areas, they will say that (although its very rare). It's a very dog friendly event.
  18. Or, buy a lunge line from a horse supply store.
  19. Well... DH noticed blood in Rhythm's pee this morning. He called vet. They had him bring in a new urine sample, toon X-ray and sonogram. No crystals or stones, but he does have white and red cells in urine. So, he got sent home with antibiotics. Fingers crossed. Poor guy.
  20. Well, I spoke too soon. Rhythm peed in the house 3x since his 10 p.m. Walk. DH took him out after the 2x he peed, but I was just awoken by the sound of pee again. So, guess who now has on a belly band for the rest of the night. GURRR
  21. We had another dry night last night. So, it's obvious he can hold it for up to 9 hours. We just need to get him on a routine during the daytime.
  22. Rhythm is definitely a marker. He can't pass a vertical surface or a bush without leaving some pee mail. It's definitely a new experience after all the girl hounds we've had.
  23. Well, blood work came back and all is normal. We will redo the urinalysis with a first morning sample since the initial test was done with a late afternoon sample. Rhythm is one cool dude - so laid back. I'd be surprised if this was anxiety driven. However, we have noticed that he seems to pee in the belly band in the time between one of us arriving home and taking him out for his walk. Excitement pee, I guess you can call it. I do have one positive update to share... he made it from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. this morning without a single accident!!! We returned from our evening walk and he wanted to go right to bed. DH normally falls asleep on the couch watching TV and then walks Rhythm when he wakes up - sometime between 1-3 a.m. He came up to get Rhythm early this morning, as usual, but he would *not* budge from his bed. I was totally expecting an accident this morning when I got up, but he managed to hold it until our normal morning walk at 7 a.m. Of course, he still peed numerous times on our walk, but I don't care about that as long as its not inside the house.
