  1. I always love this story, and had forgotten some of the details. Like Whiskey being Dude's half brother! And he and Nigel coming to Vermont on the same haul! What a wonderful group GT'ers are. We miss you Whiskey.
  2. That is incredible! We haven't been to Dewey since I started going to Spain in 2012, but one thing we always did was get up at sunrise to try and get some good pictures. Of course, we never got any pictures like this!
  3. I am loving this thread! I haven't gotten the hang of posting pics again, or I'd post my angel Lydia. We were so blessed to have her with us till she was 14 1/2, and I loved looking at her beautiful silver face every day.
  4. And the picture perfectly captures his gorgeousness.
  5. Just seeing this. What a lovely article! And it makes me feel that I'm not a wacko. Well, maybe I am. I speak Spanish to my 3 Galgo girls. Well, English too, but I kinda thought they didn't have too much loving Spanish spoken to them from the galgueros, so I tell them some every day. Actually, a lot. Here is what I say most often: Sabes cuanto te amo? Te amo mucho. Porque tu eres una buena Galga. Tu eres muy hermosa, muy cariñosa, muy jugeton, muy lista, muy fuerte y muy valiente. Translated: Do you know how much I love you? I love you a lot. Because you are a good Galga. You are very beautiful, very sweet, very playful, very smart, very strong, and very brave. I said this a lot to Kiva when she first came, because she didn't seem to think she was any of that. Then I add their names, with their Spanish middle names---Evangelina, mi pequeña Corazon (heart), Esquiva, mi pequeña Milagra (miracle), and Laila, mi pequeña Mariposa (butterfly). And sometimes Laila won't sit until we say Sientaté! But I also say, There's no whining in Galgos! There was also No whining in Greyhounds!
  6. I always love your pictures! They also give me a different view of Grapehounds. Sorry we didn't cross paths even once. I'd love to meet Hopper---such a cutie. I know you must have felt River's absence so deeply. I did see Denise a few times and fell in love with Bean. We visited some new places, and skipped a couple old favorites. And we finally ate at the Weinery! OMG, I love that place. The onion rings, the black bean burger...... Have you tried the Spotted Duck for ice cream? Sooo good. If we are lucky enough to go next year, we'll be there from Monday to Monday too. The campground gives you a free day if you stay 6.
  7. Larry, when will the ebooklet be coming out? I always look forward to it. Are there any new wineries or breweries this year? I have some friends coming who are first time Grapehounds/Finger Lakes visitors, and I'm so excited about showing them around. And we love the T-shirts!
  8. I Googled Graft---looks great. It's closing? We've wanted to try the places in Trumansburg---maybe this year. We ate at the Stonecat once, and loved it. We were on the patio, but they wouldn't let us have the dogs there. They were in the car with the AC on, and Doug kept checking on them. Didn't make for a relaxing meal. Ah, the Weinery! This is the year we eat there---I've been wanting to for years. And there is an ice cream place called the Spotted Duck that looks awesome. It's north of the Weinery on 54. Vacation to me means ice cream every day. Kind of obsessed with eating in general.
  9. What is GRAFT? We miss the Lodge, but still love our trailer at Sned Acres. We'd stay there for the full size fridge alone. But sadly, the Busy Bee, which we so enjoyed eating breakfast at a couple times at least, has closed. It was so lovely. They are selling it. Doug really liked the prime rib at the Lodge too, but I think we'll look for a place we can take the dogs. We like the Ginny Lee, Dano's, and the Village Marina, but they've always been for lunch.
  10. We did this the other day when my husband had to run in one store, and I had to run in another store. He stayed in the car with the dogs, then I stayed in the car with the dogs. We both noticed that the AC didn't stay as cool after a while if you're not driving. It was still comfortable, but I wouldn't trust that it would stay that way if it was really hot. So we would do this on a day that wasn't sweltering (and have), but certainly not for long. The reason we took the dogs is because the van has AC, our house doesn't, and we needed some relief! We all drove around and were cool for a while.
  11. Nigel is awesome! And so is his Mom for sharing him.
  12. This is a really good article. I shared it on my Facebook page. I agree, a couple images are disturbing, but the other pictures are beautiful and powerful. I hope the article reaches a lot of people.
  13. Oh, Cletus, I am smitten too! What an endearing face, and kind eyes. You are so lucky to have landed with Miss Jan. And Jan, bless you for giving this deserving guy the most wonderful home in his later years. No wonder he is roaching already!
  14. I'm just seeing this now! Nancy, you and Sid both look lovely and relaxed. What a great ambassador he is.
  15. I was going through my old Grapehounds albums, and found this one from 2013. The dearest, sweetest little face. He wasn't quite as silver then.
  16. The shy, sensitive, complex guy who was stronger than he knew. He made it through hell, and into the home where he was loved for who he was, what he'd been through, and the dog he was meant to be. Robin, I'm so very sorry you lost your precious boy. He will be missed by his friends all over the world, but most of all by you and Xavi. Grapehounds 2015
  17. What a huge part of your life he was, and what a huge empty space he will leave. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Summit.
  18. I love that plate! I'd ordered 2 of them some time ago. Then my husband found one at a church sale! This was around the time of the Miss Nellie Auction, so I donated the plate to the auction. It did well! Yes, even though it is listed by the store as a Whippet, that is a Galgos del Sol Galgo puppy! It was part of the UK artist Sally Muir's Dog a Day project on Facebook some years ago that became hugely popular. The Facebook page is still there, with beautiful current artwork. https://www.facebook.com/sallymuir.co.uk/
  19. Bless you for giving this adorable little guy such a wonderful home. He was exactly where he was supposed to be. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Remy.
  20. I love these! But I'm saying that as a collector of anything Greyhound that speaks to me, and doesn't cost a lot. We have 2 of the 4---the one with the purple base, and the little guy on the far right. And I know we didn't spend more than $10 dollars for them, if that. I wouldn't spend $60, but that's just me---and Doug too, who would say I was crazy for spending that much. But it's up to you. See if you can get her to come down. I've found that at estate sales, prices are usually way too high. They are run by companies that do that, and they want to make the highest percentage possible. We just went to an estate sale a good friend was having, working with a company. Things were SO high. But Doug came back at the end, and our friend ended up practically giving him some things (in fact, she DID give him some things). I'm not saying that will happen, of course, but at the end of a sale, they are likely to mark things down if they really want to sell them. I'm not an antiques expert by any means, but they do look like they're in less than pristine condition---the cracked base, paint loss, some discoloration, etc. And that is important for collector value. But they are still really charming. If I saw them, I would be excited, and eager to snatch them up. But not for $60. I just showed my expert, Doug the cheapskate, the pictures. He said the most he would go would be $40. But it would hurt him.
  21. Oh, Ducky, I thought I couldn't be more sad that you had lost your sweet, perfect girl so suddenly and so young. And then I saw her lovely pictures, and read your heartfelt tribute.... I'm just so very sorry.
  22. Thank-you, Jeff, for helping me with my signature! You saved me a lot of time and frustration---you are awesome!
