  1. Nigel is awesome! And so is his Mom for sharing him.
  2. This is a really good article. I shared it on my Facebook page. I agree, a couple images are disturbing, but the other pictures are beautiful and powerful. I hope the article reaches a lot of people.
  3. Oh, Cletus, I am smitten too! What an endearing face, and kind eyes. You are so lucky to have landed with Miss Jan. And Jan, bless you for giving this deserving guy the most wonderful home in his later years. No wonder he is roaching already!
  4. I'm just seeing this now! Nancy, you and Sid both look lovely and relaxed. What a great ambassador he is.
  5. I was going through my old Grapehounds albums, and found this one from 2013. The dearest, sweetest little face. He wasn't quite as silver then.
  6. The shy, sensitive, complex guy who was stronger than he knew. He made it through hell, and into the home where he was loved for who he was, what he'd been through, and the dog he was meant to be. Robin, I'm so very sorry you lost your precious boy. He will be missed by his friends all over the world, but most of all by you and Xavi. Grapehounds 2015
  7. What a huge part of your life he was, and what a huge empty space he will leave. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Summit.
  8. I love that plate! I'd ordered 2 of them some time ago. Then my husband found one at a church sale! This was around the time of the Miss Nellie Auction, so I donated the plate to the auction. It did well! Yes, even though it is listed by the store as a Whippet, that is a Galgos del Sol Galgo puppy! It was part of the UK artist Sally Muir's Dog a Day project on Facebook some years ago that became hugely popular. The Facebook page is still there, with beautiful current artwork. https://www.facebook.com/sallymuir.co.uk/
  9. Bless you for giving this adorable little guy such a wonderful home. He was exactly where he was supposed to be. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Remy.
  10. I love these! But I'm saying that as a collector of anything Greyhound that speaks to me, and doesn't cost a lot. We have 2 of the 4---the one with the purple base, and the little guy on the far right. And I know we didn't spend more than $10 dollars for them, if that. I wouldn't spend $60, but that's just me---and Doug too, who would say I was crazy for spending that much. But it's up to you. See if you can get her to come down. I've found that at estate sales, prices are usually way too high. They are run by companies that do that, and they want to make the highest percentage possible. We just went to an estate sale a good friend was having, working with a company. Things were SO high. But Doug came back at the end, and our friend ended up practically giving him some things (in fact, she DID give him some things). I'm not saying that will happen, of course, but at the end of a sale, they are likely to mark things down if they really want to sell them. I'm not an antiques expert by any means, but they do look like they're in less than pristine condition---the cracked base, paint loss, some discoloration, etc. And that is important for collector value. But they are still really charming. If I saw them, I would be excited, and eager to snatch them up. But not for $60. I just showed my expert, Doug the cheapskate, the pictures. He said the most he would go would be $40. But it would hurt him.
  11. Oh, Ducky, I thought I couldn't be more sad that you had lost your sweet, perfect girl so suddenly and so young. And then I saw her lovely pictures, and read your heartfelt tribute.... I'm just so very sorry.
  12. Thank-you, Jeff, for helping me with my signature! You saved me a lot of time and frustration---you are awesome!

  14. Yes, the best and only kind of fireworks to have on New Year's Eve! Fibi is gorgeous.
  15. Wow! It is very special as well as beautiful. I love it.
  16. This is really wonderful news. Except for the fleas, but it sounds like that is under control. Yes, that family's loss is your gain, and they are very lucky boys. They found an awesome family AND they get to stay together. Congratulations to everyone.
  17. Oh, no! No wonder your heart and home are incredibly empty. This tiny girl was larger than life, and losing her so soon after her brother is devastating. I honestly think that picture of her in her butterfly jammies is one of the most adorable I've ever seen. You captured her essence in that picture and your wonderful tribute. I'm so very sorry you lost your precious little Lora. I have a feeling that she and Finn will send you a sign that they are at peace and watching over you together.
  18. You were so blessed to welcome this sweet boy into your family when he was so young. There is always something special about the puppies, watching them grow and change and become beautiful and unique adults. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Bear.
  19. What a deep and extraordinary relationship you had. And how you will miss this lovely boy. I'm so sorry. And so sorry that Lora is missing him so much as well.
  20. What a great life he had with you, right up until you had to say goodbye. I'm so sorry you lost your precious Joey. And how cute he was!
  21. Hi! I'm always pleased when I hear that someone is interested in adopting a Galgo, especially someone who has done a good amount of research, as you have done. For over 20 years, we've adopted ex-racers, but lost our last one, Calvin, in May. Now we just have our 3 Galgo girls, all adopted from Scooby, the largest shelter in Spain. FBM is large too, and, though my heart belongs to Scooby (where I go every year to volunteer), a good organization. I also volunteered there once, in 2013. MGR is a good group. They have pretty recently started working with the Spanish rescues. Both FBM and MGR should have a really good idea of this guy's personality. So they will be excellent sources of information. There are others here who are Galgo owners and rescuers who can give you some insight as well. I personally think that there are as many differences between Greyhounds and Greyhounds, and Galgos and Galgos, as there are between Greyhounds and Galgos. I've seen every personality type within both breeds. And if you have a specific type in mind, or have certain needs---cat safe, younger, more mature, tolerant of kids, etc.---I think with questions and patience, you should be able to find a good match. That said, due to background, I've seen a lot more traumatized Galgos than Greys. But I've also seen a lot of Galgos who are so friendly that they will literally put their paws on your shoulders, lean against you, and look deeply into your eyes. A few differences---Galgos are indurance runners, not like Greys who have a burst of speed. They are also not used to being crated, and wouldn't see the crate as security as the Greys would. I think a 6 foot fence is a great idea, and required by some groups. Not all of them need it---my girls don't---but better to be sure. Hope this helps a bit. Maybe some other Galgo folks will chime in too.
  22. I know how devastating it is to lose two precious dogs so close together. Sending much sympathy on your loss of Ellie and Tessa.
  23. Oh, I'm so sorry you've lost two precious dogs so close together. They both sound like wonderful, unique characters, and you must have a huge empty space in your home and heart.
