Things are moving in a positive direction.....No evidence of lymphoma seen by the specialist on ultrasound or xray so that is good news. Red is much perkier and also seems to actually be sleeping when he lays down now rather than just resting with his eyes open. He's still got bags of fluid under his skin here and there and around his ankles and is on many many medications but we are hopeful! Oh and he's eating a bit too! Not much but he has interest and that is good!

Ha Red LOVES kitties (in a good way) and has two of his own : )

Well the news today is good so we seem to be on the mend! His appetite is still poor to nonexistent (except for peanut butter) but his RBC and blood proteins are continuing to rise. He's having his final day of hospital care today and then it will be checkup visits at the vet and home care. The tentative diagnosis is acute onset IBD with protein losing enteropathy PLE. It's the PLE part that nearly killed him and boy this train wreck happened in a hurry...

it's still possible that it's kidney rather than bowel protein loss but this is the diagnosis with the test results thus far.

Long road to recovery but headed in the right direction!

Thank you all for your thoughts and advice and words of encouragement! It really helped! :D

Glad to hear he continues to improve! IBD can be a lifelong struggle, but it is manageable. Once he is recovered, you might try the manuka honey, it was great for helping prevent flare ups with my IBD boy.

I've been following your thread from the very beginning and although I hadn't posted earlier my thoughts and healing wishes have been with Red. I'm so glad to know he is improving and pray it continues in that direction.

I would also along with the others who've already mentioned it strongly encourage you to give him Manuka honey. It did wonders for the intestinal problems my grey Nadir suffered with. With him skipping a meal made things worse. I don't know how many times after refusing to eat because his stomach was troubling him I would give him a teaspoon or two of Manuka honey and he would almost immediately start eating. It seemed to soothe whatever was irritating his digestive tract.

Hey all thanks for the encouraging words. I still can't get him to eat much. I found a jar of Manuka Honey at Fresh Market (food grade) and am trying a tsp here and there. He's basically living on milk bones, peanut butter and whatever I syringe feed him, but he's starting to back off when I try to syringe feed.

Any advice on good foods to try that won't cause an upset tummy? He seems really repulsed by all kinds of meat.....

Oh, also we went back to the doctor this morning....no improvement since Saturday but no backward sliding either so it's hopeful
