About 11pm last night, Frank jumped out of bed and was very restless. About 15 minutes later he threw up. I cleaned it up and we went back to sleep. About an hour later he is up again and throws up a HUGE amount. He threw up about 3 more times during the night and was very restless. This morning at about 6am he threw up again and there was some blood present. At 7am he threw up again with even more blood present.

He went outside and pooped so I went over to check it. It was mucousy and I saw blood. It was obvious he was really not felling well at all. His head was hanging down and he was lethargic. He didnt even get excited when I went to put on his leash.

We were at the vet's office at 8am when they opened. Thankfully our regular vet was working today. They did blood work and said he was very dehydrated. They suggested I leave him there, and pick him up at 1pm when they close.

They are putting him on IV fluids and anti nausea medicine and are going to xray him to check for any blockages.

Please send good thoughts his way. I'm worried sick. He's only 4 years old, he has to be ok.

Hopefully it's something simple that meds will do the trick and make him feel better.

I hope he feels better soon.

Sailor threw up blood once. After the evet and all that the only conclusion we could come to was that when he was throwing up normally before that, he irritated his stomach and caused it to bleed leading to bloody vomit. He did not have blood in his poop though and was not lethargic.

What does HGE stand for?

Hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.

Edited to add it is a sudden onset of vomiting and diarrhea that can if not treated within hours be fatal.

JenniferK, I see your question was already answered.

It's good to read he's feeling better.
