Dawnnziggy
I doubt that I sleep at all tonight. Ziggy has glaucoma and will lose his eye tomorrow. Our family vet reccommended it and OSU said he should have it out too. This is so hard. He has a hard time with aneasthetic(sp?). When he was attacked, he screamed the whole time the vet stitched him up. He told me that I would need to be with him to keep him from getting stressed out. So, I hope I don't bawl my eyes out! If he screams, I WILL be a bawling mess. Please keep him in your prayers. We lost Dawn a month ago and I couldn't handle losing Ziggy too. Of course he will have pre-surgery blood tests. I am just worried!
greytpups
for a successful surgery...it would probably help Ziggy if you could relax while you're with him so he doesn't feed off your anxiety. My blog about grief The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not get over the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. Dawnnziggy
I know you're right! I will try my best. I know that it is for the best as his eye is so swollen.
tbhounds
It's so hard to not worry. One thing you might want to mention to your vet is most Ghs do not do well with opiates. In my experience opiates just make for a harder recovery in Ghs. Hopefully, your hound is a candidate for NSAIDs. Also, maybe the surgeon will consider injecting a local block to the area allowing for a more pain free smoother recovery. Keep us posted on Ziggys surgery. KF_in_Georgia
It's going to sound silly, but try chewing gum. Chew it before things get started (so Ziggy can smell it), and keep chewing it. And stay near Ziggy's head so he can smell it. I've heard that dog handlers who are nervous going into the show ring will chew gum to mask the smell of fear that their dogs can sense. In Ziggy's case, the smell may also reassure him that you're right there, even when he can't see you. Best wishes to you both.
