Guest LindsaySF
It does look smaller. Yay! The bone doesn't seem to match the amount it sticks out, very odd. Based on the x-ray not showing a big bump, and the fact that it has gone down, I'm willing to bet it was just a soft tissue injury. Teagan had something similar a few months ago, though not as large as River's. Here is the thread: Teagan Has A Bump On His Wrist Teagan's "bump" is actually still there, but it has not grown and he has never limped. We have been to a few LGRA meets too and no problems. The vet thought it was a calcification or some inflammation, but because the x-rays were ok and there is no pain they are not concerned. I have noticed that that leg is the one he uses to rub at his muzzle, in that EXACT spot, so the bump will probably never heal. Glad River seems to be on the mend! ~Lindsay~

duncan41
As Dusty Springfield would sing, "Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin'. Plannin' and dreamin' that River is fine! mom2four
Annie, I have no idea how I missed this thread (well I do, GT is just sooo busy!), but I just wanted to wish River well. In the pictures of the bump comparison I think the swelling has gone down! I have spoken to Dr Marin before and she is very good, although hard to understand. I hope that River continues to improve! Guest TBSFlame
Oh... i hate to wait for anything... but the good news is that she said she didnt see any lesions... so lets keep our fingers crossed. Yes, this is good news. I know with my osteo dogs the bone looked like lace on the rays.
Guest angel
When my grey was diagnosed over a month ago, the X-rays of his carpus looked completely different from yours. In the worst case scenario, if it is early OS, it is so early that it isn't even obvious on the X-rays. Much better prognosis!
Guest Annie
The knot is definitely a different shape, in my opinion. I must say, I'm so impressed with how short River's nails are. Do you use clippers or a dremel? Cathie, I'm afraid I can't really take credit for River's short nails. He is completely responsible for how short they are because of furiously kicking up dirt everytime he relieve's himself! I do use a dremel though, all 3 of them much prefer it! I got through to Dr. Marin (at OSU) this morning, and she confirmed that there were no bone lesions!!! She recommends a fine needle aspiration of the soft tissue should the swelling not disappear in the next week or two. Funny thing is, I found a tiny dot of a scab right in the middle of the carpus a few days ago. Do you think it's possible that this whole thing was caused by a wasp/hornet/bee sting??? Could the swelling from a sting last for more than a week??? River continues to be very happy and perfectly sound. The swelling is about the same as yesterday and I have a call into my vet to discuss if and when we should do the fine needle aspiration. Thank you so much for all your prayers and good wishes for my sweet older gentleman!!! I love GT!!!!!
Guest trevdog
Maybe a spider bite? Glad to see it's going down and hoping it's nothing a few more days won't cure....
PrairieProf
Wow, what great news!! And especially if you can come up with a likely cause, like a sting -- nice minor one-time thing! TheFullHouse
A spider bite will do that. Two of mine have been bitten and had their legs swell like that. The thing about spider bites, it takes forever for the swelling to go down. I think Valentino's was swollen for 3 weeks (with antibiotics) and Saints was swollen and he had a hard time walk for two weeks.
