Houndtime
Good wishes and thoughts for you and Monty. I was hoping for a better report, but things could still be fine afterwards. We all just know that!! When the reports are in, call Dr. Couto for his opinion. He called me almost immediately after I faxed him the reports from John E's eye surgery when he had the tumors in his eyelids. HopeForHounds
When I read earlier that the aspirate was blood, I had a feeling this would be the outcome. But, I'm praying that, if it is cancer, Monty has the same cancer that Foxy had. Our vet found round cells in the aspirate, and we opted to have the tumor removed rather than sending in the fluid. Her final diagnosis was hemangiopericytoma. Treatable, rarely metastesizes, Foxy lived 4 years after her's was removed. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am sorry you lost Foxy but I am glad she got 4 more years with your family. Also I forgot to mention she will do chest x rays before surgery to see if his lungs are clear. She did not recommend an abdominal ultrasound at this point which I think would also look for metastases. They do not do ultrasound at their office and it seems not necessary at present. We did get 4 more wonderful years. Plus she didn't die of cancer. Guest luckydog
Monty, Sam, you and your husband are in our thoughts. If for any reason and at any time Monty needs a blood transfusion, Hazel is available. Her blood type is DEA 1.1 negative. She donates at Penn, so they have her on record as a donor dog. I'll PM you my phone # just in case.

Guest greytmonty
You need to do what you think is best for Monty. If it means having your vet do the surgery, then that is what you do. I really hope she is wrong when Monty gets the surgery. How old is Monty? Sending good thoughts and healing prayers to Monty and your family Monty is only 4 1/2. He will be 5 in Feb. he has had more vet visits in his short life than many dogs!!!! oy. Thanks for your thoughts.

Guest greytmonty
Thank you everyone for your support. It means so much to know that there is this wonderful community of loving people out there supporting one another, laughing together in good times at funny goofy things, and pulling together with good thoughts and prayers at harder times. I know many people on this board have dogs with much more serious ailments than Monty has as of now, and I appreciate all the caring I feel from my friends here. Rickiesmom
The important thing is that you are moving forward to do what you can to give Monty the longest possible good life, and you are engaging someone in whom you have confidence and trust, and who also knows and cares for your pup.
