tornadosgirl Posted October 30, 2008 Share Posted October 30, 2008 (edited) Penny has been at the hospital (Tufts) for treatment of her lymphoma. A promising new chemo drug was given yesterday, the first of five doses. We saw her last night and she looked good, just tired. I got a call at work this afternoon saying she has been transferred to the ICU. A dosing error was made yesterday and she got an accidental overdose of the medicine. Since the drug is so new, they don't know yet what will happen with her, although they said there is a significant chance that she will pass in the next few days. She will probably have stomach problems- vomiting, nausea, diarrhea. And significant suppresssion of her bone marrow. I saw her this afternoon and she looked good- very alert and responsive. I just can't believe this is happening to her! I don't want to lose her, but I don't want her to have to go thru too much more of this. She had about six months of chemo, a massive uti, a month of antibiotics (3 different kinds) and now this. Please pray for her. She is such a GOOD girl. The doctors remarked that they've never had so many people (staff) coming by to see a dog or inquiring about how she was doing. Update: November 5: Just got this morning's report. Her white blood cell count is way up! Sunday, it was so low. Sunday: 300 Monda: 600 Tuesday: 2200 Wednesday: 5200 Now she just needs to have the diarrhea stop and get back to eating. She has the TPN line in, but it doesn't seem to bother her and it's giving her more energy. On her walk this morning they said they had to hold her back from trying to go outside the gate (where she knows the cars are. She'll go home with anyone).
